: Truck will not Start. 06lbz 71k
steakman 01-26-2008, 12:33 PM OK. All lights are fine, turns over. I believe injector pump is not getting fuel.
Checked for codes on my Banks PDA - none.
Just changed OEM filter less than 2000k
Am not running BioD (other than additive at 1oz per tank)
However I have a Stanadyne FM 100 fuel manager secondary fuel filtration w/5micron filter. I did check stanadynes website and saw on their filter recommendations that this filter should be chaged out at 15,000 miles. I am thinking this is the culprit as I have put at least 25-30k since intitial install. duh..!
Only one dealer in Caglary and of course not open on Saturday. So: A to get truck going I am going to bypass this filter for now - see if it starts. If so and to prevent this from happening again, I think it is high time to build a valved bypass to isolate this filter should this happens again. (changing it out on a regular basis would help as well eh..?? uhhh yea.! my dumb.!)
Anyway, all depends if this 5 Mu filter unit is the culprit.
We shall see.
If I am on the wrong track, pls comment...if ya think I am on the right track - pls say so as well..
thank god it is just above freezing here. Weather forecast is for Monday to have a high of -18C and it gets progressively worse from there..!!
gonna git er done...now. bye.
cheers,
stk
steakman 01-26-2008, 04:01 PM I ended bypassing on a temp basis the 5 Mu filter and lo n behold, the truck fires up no problem.
But at least I know how long I can go on that particular filter. Now to build the bypass (just in case)..2 hrs getting fittings/small enough valves to fit.
stay tuned....pics to come.

cuffnup 01-26-2008, 04:32 PM ya cant wait to see the pics
steakman 01-26-2008, 07:50 PM Got er done. Works like a charm. Hopefully I won't regret doing this...having to remove to fix or retro something else...but will worry about it when the time comes.

A few brass fittings/2 beer/teflon tape and a scrape or two....but overall I'm happy with the result. Now I can replace at my leisure and when a new one is installed (Mon), run it till it blocks. That will give me an idea as to how long they actually are good for.
gotta go - Salmon steak on the barby and a good btl of Chardonny is awaiting..!!
cheers,
stk
Jason Duramax 01-26-2008, 07:57 PM Nice work, interesting problem and soloution. That only took two beers??
steakman 01-26-2008, 09:13 PM Well...2-3, I wasn't counting.!
Suffice to say I have 14 & 17 yr old daughters, and even the damned Kat is female. There are days when it's rather prudent to dissapear into the garage/driveway and work on a supposed problem that "if not fixed" will not allow those 4 females to continue in the lifestyle that they apparently are accustomed to.!
Said Females were 'itchin at each other with Large B's....
I think I'm the only guy that has a garage door lockable from the garage side.! yea baby..!! Note: Garage is equipped with Fridge (beer), Tunes and Tools and good buddies that live on either side of me.... is there any other way..??
cheers,
Stk
ar077 01-27-2008, 10:37 AM Reading down the thread my first thought was "why not just change the Stanadyne filter as soon as you can (and while you're at it get a spare)" but your last post said it all. Your bypass plumbing is a work of art. How about adding a parts list for anyone who might want to fabricate a similar system.
Love your city. Visited friends in Cochrane last July and went to the Stampede.
coldLBZ 01-27-2008, 03:27 PM Nice work steakman, how do you like the Stanadyne filter set up? Thanks.
steakman 01-27-2008, 03:53 PM [quote]...and while you're at it get a spare[/quote}
Ya know, that was my first solution but checking Stanadynes website, dealer locator - there is only one dealer within reasonable distance and he was typically closed. I will be there tomorrow and will indeed get a spare or two. Yea I could'ave just simply bypassed and used a hose coupler to join both hoses...and be done for now. But as I noted, time alone in the garage working or foolin around with ones pride n joy is an opportunity not to be passed up. (Particularly with some Rickers White in the Fridge)..! Those that are married with children in the "lippy" yrs will, I am sure, capiche..
Given it is -17C, wind from the North @ 35-50 and blowing snow, glad I did what I did, yesterday.
Hey Ar nice to hear ya spent some time here. It is lovely in the sommer, STAMPEDE is a Blast and quite the party..come on back sometime and when ya do, look me up..! I'll get a bill of mtl on a .pdf as soon as I can get at it..gotta few "honey-do's" to do today.
As for liking the Stanadyne..I think it is a great set up. It is "above ground" for one, so no climbing under the truck and it makes for easy access. I have the glass bowl as well to see if I ever get water in the fuel. Yea I like it and given it was a 5 mU filter that took some 30K + miles to get completely plugged...I'm impressed with that.
Engine Longetivity - I'm big on that.
cheers guys,

Um, your situation and means of sanity sound a little TOO familiar. And all this time I figured they just burned the cloth I was cut from...
dan-o 01-27-2008, 06:04 PM Nice work. Since I don't have a Stanadyne set up, I'm going to use your parts list to try and fabricate a way to make my kids shut up. See you on the 11:00 news.....
steakman 01-27-2008, 09:41 PM I thank you and appreciate the comments
Now is it just me, or am I completely off my rocker when I think that in about 10 yrs from now (I 'm supposed to retire in 10-13yrs depending)...that we are gonna be in MAJOR trouble. We, the Boomers that have at least an inkling of the work ethic our fathers did...and yet we are leaving our world to whom..?? what..?? the Paris Hilton generation......????? uh oh. We are in DEEP $hit my friends when we are leaving the planet to those that've been spoon fed, Cell phoned, USB/WiFi/PS1-2-3 Wired, prefer to negotiate with the Taliban & prefer to wear their jeans at their knees. Must be quite a load they are carrying.
Scary stuff....Rant over-wrong sub forum for that anyway.
Anyway, as for the parts list: All fittings are 3/8" npt
5 ea 90 deg street elbows (brass)
3 ea close nipples (brass)
2 ea Tee's threaded: 3/8" all way round
1 ea hex close nipple (brass)
1 ea 4 or 5" (not quite sure) std nipple (could'nt find brass so used galv steel)
3 ea ball valves (Believe they're SSteel)
4 ea threaded X 1/2" barbed nipples (1 ea for inlet/outlet and 2 ea for the "hose union")
6" Reinforced 1/2" hose
Teflon tape (not really required for brass, but dbl safe I figure)
