I'm thinking to install a couple gauges to keep track of the PSI in my air bags. What gauges do you guys suggest and how hard are they to install?

Look around for gauges. For what you are looking to do, you could run just one dual-needle gauge to save room. Look on AirLift's website, or go to ebay and type in "dual air gauge", I found several. You will need to "T" into your existing line on each bag and run your lines up to the cab. I use the 1/4" airline all the way to the cab because I don't trust that crappy little 1/8" tubing that some people use.

I run the firestone in cab controller, I don't tow fifthwheel or gooseneck, just a regular tag and load in the bed, so I don't have the bags set up independently. Works great for me!

Are you also running the firestone bags or something different.

Firestone bags as well. Theres a picture of the bag and a picture of the gauge/controller in my garage.

So, do you fill up the bags using one valve or two? Or, do you fill them up seperately and use a T going to your air gauge. I want to do it as simple as possible, but I would want to make sure both bags have the same amount of air in them. The in cab air gauge is nice to have, but I would be fine just using a regular hand held gauge.

I have a storage tank on my setup so I'll try to make it simple in words if not let me know and I can make a diagram if my explaining doesn't make sense. I tap off the tank and run to the gauge / control switch --> a "T" --> to the bags.

If you were running a fifth wheel or gooseneck I would recommend that you isolate the bags on independent switches to reduce sway.

Tried to explain it clearly hope it helps :)

Got it ! I didn't see the tank and compressor before. I think I will use the same setup. Thanks

I put in a 3 gauage pilliar pod and made my 3rd gauage a air gauage they are ispro i run the air the same to both air bags I tow a 38ft fifth wheel i haven't found where i need them to be fed air independt I like haveing the gauage in the pod munch better than the firestone set up i had under the dash before :D

Hey ABQFirefighter,

Nice looking gauge box...did you make that thing yourself? You will have to help me put my airhorn stuff together when I get the $$ to do it since your the air king in my parts of the country.

Just get the cash, then we'll talk.

I have the firestone airbags too and my guage is similar to dmaxfireman's guage, except I have the switch on both sides to independently air up the bags.

I am not sure, but it seems when I put air in both at the same time that they level each other out. If I do it individually, then they are different.

That is because they are now sharing an input and equalizing slowly ( the bag with the higher pressure to begin with fills just slightly slower than the one with lower pressure and vice versa until they're equal), when you have an independent setup you need to fill them one at a time.

I'm sure there is some law of physics that explains it all but I just don't know what its called. :o:

Well, if I air them up individually, they don't equalize. I guess that pushing both switches at the same time just opens up the dams to equalize them.

Hey jrr duramax, where did you mount your switch to air up your bags at. Maybe you don't have one. Just wondering.

I have a banks with the pda and I still have the old pillar with the holes cut out from my old gauges. I was thinkink of putting my air gauge in one pod, and cutting out a piece of plastic to fill the other pod in. I would then like to cut a square hole in the filled in piece to mount my switch. Anybody else done anything like this or any other ideas?

ABQ,

nice set up. I was thinking of running VDO dual airguages like in the BRT's...white for tank and red for rear...and then using a self leveling valve like used on the big rigs...

I mounted the gauges and controls for my Firestone bags in the overhead console. There are a few pics in my garage.

That would work........
