I am unsatisfied with the factory brakes on my 02 2500HD Have anybody installed any of the aftermarket upgraded brakes. I dont want an exhaust brake...I just want more braking for everyday driving

I put on Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads and they work great. Better than stock, but a little more dust. Package front and rear was around $650.

How much money do you want to spend?
The Brake Man (http://www.thebrakeman.com/stormkitlist) has a STORM kit with 14" rotors see the Application list (http://i.b5z.net/i/u/351269/i/Storm_wd0704.pdf)
Stoptech (http://www.stoptech.com) has a Big Brake Kit available with the following features:
ST-80 8 Piston Caliper
- The world’s largest aftermarket caliper
- Made of billet aluminum
- All finished parts are 100% tested to a pressure of 2500psi
- Uses 4 pads per caliper
- Uses standard FMSI 608 Pad
- 2 patented bolt in bridges eliminate caliper distortion
- Kit includes 380 x 35mm AeroRotorTM
- Standard painted finish or custom finishes available
- Differential piston sizes minimize pad taper
- Dust boots are standard
- Bracket is built into the caliper
SSBS (http://www.ssbrakes.com/truckstop/) has a new kit out, called quick change kit with their Tri-Power Calipers
Stillen (www.stillen.com) has a Big Brake Kit from AP (http://www.stillen.com/brakepros_detail.asp?id=32347&main=1)
Then there are several others that offer improved stock size rotors and/or
pads.

For me the SSBS kit sounds very intersting. That combined with a 14" rotor that would work with letīs say H2 wheels would be sweet.

My truck has some good brakes. They will jerk your neck if you hit the pedal to hard. They are also stock.

Try flushing your brake fluid first before spending big bucks. If you have never done it on your '02 you are most likely overdue. GM uses a DOT 3 fluid. DOT 3's tend to absorb water at a high rate.

I flushed mine after 2 years and used a DOT 4 fluid. I used Ate Super Blue. It's blue in color so you know when it reached the caliper as you are flushing. After flushing the breaks are really firm now.

Also a very good not expensive fluid is the Valvoline High Performance synthetic or Castrol LMA.

DO NOT USE DOT 5! IT IS NOT COMPATABLE WITH OUR SYSTEM!

That is a good idea...I have never had to flush a system before but I thought my brakes were better than they are now....pad wear is minimal with no warp in the rotors. It just seems that the pedal is "lower" or takes more pressure to stop than it did before. I will give it a try but still would like the bigger rotors and calipers

I tow a 13K 5th wheel trailer.

I have original brakes, and 47000 miles on the truck.

They have never failed me.

Something must be wrong with yours.

Post what you finally do to get the orignal feel back.

I think Brembo has something out for our trucks. Might want to check there...
