2005 Suburban had Service Air Bag message appear this morning? I thought the air bags are self contained units. Unless they deploy how do you service them?

It was 20 degrees this morning. I think the cold/ice may be affecting the sensor that activates it.
I have never seen this message before on any car.

Ideas?

Just like a 'Service Engine Soon' light, a code is set in the airbag system. You need to check codes and have it diagnosed.

Don't jump to conculsions, SIR systems are very trouble free, they don't have the common problems other components do.

I've seen very few faults on SIR systems. Each time it was something different. Most recent was the passenger 'on/off' switch had an open.

Yep all my time at the dealership we rarely saw problems with the airbag systems. Have you had any water leaks or spilled drinks? Sometimes moisture can corrode the connections to the modules under the seats. I would have a good shop check it out. You want your airbags to work when you need them.

I know of 3 gm trucks, that had that happen...all have been the SIR computer, mine came on while i was driving, had the code checked.....The airbag was commanded to deploy:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: but it didnot do the computer didnot see any input from the crash sensors.I will bet anything, its the SIR computer.

Out of everything, the DIRM is the most complex piece, which would mean it's the most likey piece to fail. Everything else is just simple switches and the thing that goes boom. Had one of those go bad and the truck was still under warrenty.

They are fun to deploy. I've seen 20 or more deployed, fun and cool, don't blink or you'll miss it. I miss school.:D

We deployed one under the shop truck at the dealership and the truck got a little air. Not sure it got tires off the ground, but the truck sure came up a bit. It scared everyone who didn't know we were doing it. They thought a shotgun was fired lol Prob not the safest looking back, but it sure was fun :muahaha:

Turns out it was the front left sensor. They say it shorted out. $396 to fix at dealer.

do you have the part number of the sensor? i'm curious as to what it would cost thru partsdirect??

The invoice list the part as $126.00. I do not have the part number. The restraint system is nothing I want to mess with myself. Too much depending on it.

thanks pursuit. hopefully its just a loose connection or something similar, hell maybe it'll fix itself.
