Hey guys, Im trying to positively identify the motor in a truck I just bought. It was originally a 2006 but it was rolled and the cab was replaced with a 1999. All I have is the VIN for the '99. The rest of the truck is 2006. Is there any other place the VIN might be listed? Thanks

Is it the 6 speed allison? Not sure exactly where to look, but I know it would be on the engine block and axles, just nor sure of the locations.

There's a giant barcode on the passenger side frame rail with the VIN.
The driveshaft has a sticker with p/n, assembly date, and VIN.
The gas tank has a sticker with p/n, assembly date, and VIN.
Under the hood, the air cleaner has a sticker with the last 8 digits of the VIN on it. Give that to your dealer (or the VIN check here) and they can give you the rest of it.

If you just want to know if your 06 has an LLY or LBZ, look at the air cleaner as I said before. It has the last 8 digits and it states the rated hp. 310hp= LLY 360hp= LBZ

even still 99% of the stuff that's out there is designed to work on the 06-07 lly/lbz

If it's a 2006 or 07 classic, everything is the same no matter what engine is in it. ;)

I work at the Chevy plant in Kansas City, Kansas. The cars we build also have the VIN # engraved on the engine block as well as the tranny. I was also told that ALL engines and tranny are engraved at the plant. However I'm not sure of the location of the vin numbers. I would bet any Chevy dealer can show it to you. Hope this helps.

:( I wish I had 360 hp

Of course, we all have 500+ hp if we up tune our detuned motors.
