Ok you smart guys.

I looked at the AC part catalog for the locking "gas" cap for the 2004 VIN#2 LLY and looking for 2004 there is no VIN#2 drop down box...... So I look ahead to 2005 and indeed there is the VIN#2 the choices are the GT230 non-locking so that's out of the question; the GT269 and the GT271 both with piss-poor descriptors for ignorant folks like myself.

Now I know the GT250 is the ticket for the 2002, even got a picture of it in the catalog AND I know that the GT230 mentioned above is the non-locking replacement for the 2002.... So what's the deal 2004 LLY is not made clear in the catalog, and the 2005 is giving TWO non-GT250 choices???

Dazed and confused.......

Maybe they havent updated their catalogue yet. So far people have been ordering the GT250, and it works for them, I did the same just last week. So just order that rather than worry about what the catalogue says..

Umm thanks, I guess.

There is probably a logical reason for the GT269 and GT271 that is yet to be revealed.

ask for locking gas cap for a 95 S-10. It works fine on a duramax. I know I have both vehicles. When I couldn't get a locking gas cap for the duramax I tried the s-10 cap worked fine, so I got another one from GM for an S-10. Also, Stant lists the same pn for a 2004/2005 duramax locking gas cap as the 95-s10 locking gas cap.

I've been looking for the correct locking fuel cap ever since I purchased my truck last March. The dealers (I've checked with two) say that the 2004 cap has not been produced and will have to be different from the GT250 because of the new emissions controls. Anyone know if this is correct? If they're full of it and the GT250 will be the correct cap after catalog updating, I'd like to go ahead and get one from GMParts Direct. Not really interested in getting SES light for a cap that doesn't work.

I,too, was in the search for a locking cap. What I came up with is one made by Balkamp for NAPA. The number is 703-1641. It looks exactly like the one that came with.

I had bought one for my '99 Suburban. When I traded it for my Max, I just swapped it out with the stock one. Works fine.

I bought the GT-250 for mine (2005 LLY) and it works fine. It has the little groove for the plastic tether strap too.

I also had a concern about compatibility, but noticed that the non-locking cap for all years was the GT-230, so I figured, if they all use the same non-locking cap, then the same locking cap should work as well.
