Wow, can't describe what this is to save my butt, does anyone know what i'm talking about? Temps were well into the negatives last couple of nights, and when I opened my door and went to shut it, I heard a little cracking noise, and saw that the black plastic bar that is bolted to the body and slides into a hole in the door at the door jamb, snapped at the pivot point. What does this thing do? Now it rattles around in the door when I shut it.

thats the check rod right? id imagine the door just now swings open and closed without any resistance. its fairly easy to replace, just have to remove the door panel to get to the other slide part in the door itself

Could be. I didn't notice the door opening any differently, but it's so cold out, I'm just trying to get in and get out quick.

This is the rear door, but I guess would be item #18

yea, thats the check rod. my old 00 1500 had the original metal check rods, the driver side wore out and would jam at an angle and the door couldnt be closed. the replacement part i got is the plastic style thats now in the trucks. very easy to replace, like said you just have to remove the door panel to get inside the door to remove the keeper in there

Had the same problem 4 times already with some of my trucks, they snap right at the smallest point with the most pressure.....hmmm, you think they would realize this. :D Takes about 10 minutes if you have taken the door panel off a couple of times before and 2 bolts, very simple.

Problem is they do probalby know it and that is why they SELL parts to us when they break. Do you think there is a lot of demand for them maybe? or just break now and then

I dont think there is a so to say "demand" for them just a call. Its not that normal of occurance but I know a handful of people that this has happeded too. I think they just need a better design, havent looked at an LMM to see but maybe they did something.

Yep, a peice of junk little peice of cast that breaks a lot....:D Makes it so your door swings open in increments and dosent "over" open so to speak

That was the part, thanks! Once I figured out the door panel it was easy. Took me longer to find the broken off piece inside the door than it did to replace the part
