What are the basic differences and why do people pick one over the other?

Well basically the differences are that the Revo was a 9.1 on the Tirerack scale and the BFG was an 8.9. The Revo is supposed to have better wet traction while the BFG is better in the mud, price is a small issue but not much, some like the Revo because of looks and others like the BFG... Search this and you will find more, just do a REVO search and BFG search... Good luck

BFG ATs are supposed to be better in the snow. They even have the severe weather rating on the sidewall that is usually reserved for designated snow tires.

I chose the BFG's simply because of price. It was going to cost close to $1,400 bucks to get four 265-75-16 Revos and I got my BFG AT KO's for $950. Only difference is I couldn't get BFG's in a load Range E in that size where as you could with the REVO's

I have seven trucks and nine sets of BFG ATs. I've tried Revos and quite a few other brands, nothing has the all around quality's that the BFGs do, IMHO.:)

I had BFG's, beat the snot out of em, But only got around 32K, Most other people I have spoken to with BFG's get at least 45K miles out of em. My set I just had installed are Cooper Discoverers AT, Swore Id never buy em again, But $116/ tire was alot nicer than $165/ tire for the BFG's. The BFGs I ran last didnt balance worth a poop...maximum weights on 2 tires. The Coopers are the smoothest, quietest, best balanced tire yet. I have maybe 14,000 on these Coopers now will most likely see around 35-45K before i retire em.

I have used both on 2 different trucks. Both have been pretty good tires. If your truck will see little or no off pavement time, the REVOs are the way to go...they are quiet and smooth. I had them in some mud, but they didn't clean out very well. I just put the BFGs on my HD and love them. It just comes down to personal preference on which one you actually choose. I haven't had the BFGs long enough to run them on dry and wet pavement, but they are awesome snow tires! We just had about 10-12" in the past week here in AK (eielson afb) and the only time I had a problem was my own fault anyway. My 2 cents!

I have about 5K on my Revos and like them. I would have gotten Bfg's if they would have had E load range. The only camplaint I have with the Revos is they really like to pick up stones. They both look good IMHO. How bad do the BFG's throw stones???

I had a set of the BFG AT k/o's but didn't get that much mileage out of them (28,000). I also didn't like that I had to go to 245's to get the load range E.

We do mostly highway miles but the trip up to the barn is frequently muddy so I really want a all terrain read. I loved the performance of the BFG.

On our Yukon Xl 2500 I just put a set of Revos on. So far I really like highway performance. In fact I think they have the best performance on road wet or dry of any tire we've had. We haven't had enough snow this year to tell how they do on snow and ice. Going up to the barn and in mud they seem a smidge worse than the BFG's but really haven't had any trouble or for that matter a significant test.

So far the only down side is that they really pick up gravel and don't let it go.

When you live on a farm with a lot of gravel roads thats not so good. Only had to stop to clear them for balance 2 times so maybe it's not as bad as I think it will be.

For my other truck I bought a set of generic AT tires. They are Summit Trail Climbers. About $125-130 for 265-75 16E. The local tire store sells a lot of them and they seem to be doing well.

Tires seem to be a very personal choice, sometimes even more than the brand of truck you buy. I sure liked the BFG's and would have stayed with them if they had a 265-75 16E. I am also happy so far with both sets of tires that I now have.

On my 03CC I swapped the factory tires at delivery for 265 BFG AT's LR D. They lasted 45K miles but were getting marginal for snow/rain. Replace with the same size Revo's in LR E. So far I have put about 5000 miles on the Revos and have no complaints. The BFG's were stiffer at at the same PSI and less compliant - the ride is now a little smoother with the Revos (only suspension change is Bilstein shocks). The wet traction seems a little better - less wheelspin around corners, etc. on wet roads. Have only driven in 4-6 inches of snow, Revos did great, but haven't driven in a real storm yet. The Revos are also a bit quieter, more like the stock tires - you could hear the BFG's but it wasn't overwhelming.

I had to shop around a lot for to get a decent price on the Revos. The best price I got on BFG's was $640. The Revos, at my local Firestone shop, were about $680, but some shops quoted as high as $900! I decided for $10/tire I would try something different and so far I am happy with my decision.

I DO think the BFG's are probably a better snow/sand/offroad tire based on comparing the two tread patterns, but I'm onroad abou 98% of the time.......

The Revos are really good in snow. A friend of mine has the BFG's and they are 90% work. He is not happy with the mileage and is really impressed with my Revos. He is going to replace his BFG's with Revos and I guarantee he won't go back.

The Revos are really good in snow.

I agree!

If most of your travels keep you on the road, then the REVO is a better tire for your needs.

I am on my 3rd set of REVO's. Owned nothing but BFG Mud Terrains prior to the REVO's.

I've had the wheel well full of mud and up to the frame with the REVO's and never been stuck yet.

The BFG's have a more aggressive tread and SHOULD be better in deep snow and mud.

If you spend a lot of time in mud, deep snow, gravel, then the BFG's would suit your needs better.
