Anyone do this, is it "safe"? I know it'd prolly be a PITA, but will it work? will the heat not discolor or wrinkle the tint?
Anyone's comments welcome.
Thanks.

It is done all the time. No problems. The only thing is the tint installer has to be carefull not to cut any of the defrost lines. I have seen quite a few cars with aftermarket tint with a line or two that doesn't work because the installer wasn't carefull with the razor.

I've seen way too many cars with window tint and rear window defrosters to recommend it. Perhaps it can be done if done properly, but from what I've seen if the defroster is actually utilized the tint will eventually bubble up and there will be lines across the window just like the defroster element. I have no idea how long it would take or how often one must run the defroster, but I know that it looks cheap and stupid when it happens. Perhaps some folks have better luck or just don't keep their vehicles long enough to see the tint turn to garbage.

That tint, as an insulator not a very efficient heat conductor, must keep of the heat from the defroster in, much like powder coating an aluminum finned transmission pan for looks can be counter productive as the coating inhibits heats transfer keeping some of the heat in the pan rather than letting it radiate outward.

At least I would get some kind of warranty from the installer to make things right if you go ahead with it, just in case....

If you get quality tint installed by a professional you will not have problems. This is what my tint installer told me when I asked about this.

I've got 2 trucks right now with tint on the back window with the Defroster. One truck is 4 years old and the rear defroster gets used a lot in the winter here. I've had no problems with the tint or the defroster. Like Max Power said a quality installer is needed.

Yep, that was the only thing my truck did not have was tinted rear windows, and it was done before I ever picked it up to close the deal--dealer had someone do it--you really have to look to tell it is not factory!

I have the sliding rear window, no defroster. Anyone added one? Is there a defroster lead from the wiring harness hidden in the plastic panel somewhere?
