BlueOx03 01-07-2005, 05:50 PM Or should I say dash LEDs...you guys know how I love blue so I had to have blue dash lights. The cluster was the hard part, I made the needles light up white...I love the way it looks, now I just need to get some good pics...here's one for now...what do you guys think?

GMC2500HD 01-07-2005, 11:05 PM Ok start talking, that looks cool.... Next mod might be this one...
Max Power 01-07-2005, 11:47 PM He pulled apart all the components and replaced the white LED's with blue ones. This is not a mod for everyone. The instrument cluster is very delicate and you could do a lot of expensive damage!
GMC2500HD 01-07-2005, 11:49 PM Well then Max, I think you need to work on that and then sell them..That is your specialty..
I would love to do that to my rig!
Max Power 01-07-2005, 11:55 PM That is the way it should have been done from the factory.
Duratys 01-07-2005, 11:59 PM NO GUTS NO GLORY MAX POWER:ro) DAAAMMMM THAT LOOKS GOOD:D NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE AVERAGE JOE THEN.....?
sp33d 01-08-2005, 12:01 AM It looks like EVERYTHING is blue LEDs now? If so, that's a lot of time and patience! May have to just do the cluster for now... Curious to know what LEDs you bought though.
Max Power 01-08-2005, 12:03 AM Considering that it involves surface mount soldering in a $300+ instrument cluster I would say it is not recommended for the average joe. You also have to pull off the needles and get them lined up properly upon reinstall.
I've never attempted it so Ox would be able to tell you better then me. I have been in my fair share of instrument clusters and my opinion is that this is not for the faint of heart.
If it is as involved as Max Power says it is - I'll just live with my factory color. That job is not for the faint of heart  and it aint for me either - Still looks smokin though. :D :ro)
AndrewFessler 01-08-2005, 01:12 AM i am good with electical components. I can solder well, so give some details. How many hours and leds and what else did it take you?
- Andrew
tophog 01-08-2005, 02:23 AM I guess if one "roasts" their cluster doing the mod one can pickup a new one on eBay for 3 bills or so :o
_nar_ 01-08-2005, 05:48 PM Heck just take a blue marker to all the leds..):h
Dr Crane 01-09-2005, 01:07 PM Had my dash apart half a dozen times to fix blown bulbs (in 03 not all lights are LED's) last time around the trip odometer switch blew apart and I couldn't find the last piece that was about the size of a pin head so now I no longer have trip odometer. Soldering on the board is extremely difficult and lining up the needles is not easy (take a picture of the needle position with engine cold and key on for comparison)
I really would like to know where you got the LED's BlueOx, I couldn't find the bulbs anywhere let alone the LED's, so I ended up using regular small dashlight bulbs and soldering the pigtail wires to the board. Every time I fix one and put it back together, another one blows! I'd like to go with all LED's.
Duratys 01-09-2005, 01:50 PM I HAVE THIS FEELING THAT THIS COOOL MOD IS BEING RIPPED FROM MY FRAIL WHITE FINGERS:( OX PLEASE TELL ME THAT THIS WASNT AS DELLICATE AS EVERYBODY SAYS...IF IT IS.....BREAK THE NEWS GENTLY):h
DAM GENETICS MADE ME STUPID:D
2K2AD 01-09-2005, 02:47 PM Hey Ox, can you share some PNs? My AC control and 4X4 indicator bulbs are gone and I would like to replace them with LEDs.
Thanks,
Kevin
BlueOx03 01-12-2005, 11:16 AM I get my LEDs from Lsdiodes.com it takes over 100 to it and have it come out nice. I've been working on this for around a year now to get it just right, there's more to it than just slapping some LEDs in there. I won't be posting a how to on this, the point was to be unique. I can do this in other colors and I may do a few others, but it's a lot of work so it will cost a lot to do. If you want it done, drop me a line and I'll quote a price and time...
