I tow up it, maybe 6-10 times a year. 10k# trailer.
The 05 8.1 would tow it at 65mph and 4200rpm
The 08 6.6 tows it at 65mph at ~2200rpm. Not sure on temp.

(see sig)

I towed a Jeep on trailer (~6500 lbs) up that thing pre-Dmax with my '93 LandCruiser. I alternated between first and second gear, maintaining 25MPH all the way up. The trans was so hot at the top of the grade, we pulled over because it was making my leg uncomfortable thru the console!!!

Haven't done it since getting the truck, but I pull Donner with my 10K toy hauler at whatever speed I choose. Normally, 60MPH, 4th gear, 2500 RPM and temps normal. Sometimes it'll pop back into 5th, but not always.

I'm around 18,000 lbs. with everything and believe I'm around 50-65. These trucks just keep going. I don't have any gauges for egt in my truck, water temp I think it hit's 220 and the fan comes on and the temp go's down fast. It's all stock.

I've have pulled that hill at 110 outside with the air on with no problems.

I've been up it several times in the rig in my sig including the boat. Weighs in at 17,900 lbs loaded to go camping. It's really not a big deal in these trucks. I keep my speed down to so EGT's don't get over 1250. In my mind it's coming down where you need to pay attention. Not much of a problem in T/H but in my old gasser dually the brakes used to get smoking hot:o: Watch out for the logging trucks on their way down....the spray water on their brakes:eek: If your are going to Shaver make sure you check out Huntington Lake and then head up the mtn. from there to see Florence and Edison Lake.....Some beautiful country up there:)

Yes it is, I've spent many of my younger years up there. Get back into the back country up there and you always catch fish, just a question of how big. What speed do you pull that grade ?

I tow my jeep (7k w/trailer...~14k total weight) up there a few times a year. With the lift & 35's I set the cruise at 60 and put it in 4th gear. EGT's are 1150-1300. Water temp never goes above 210 and the tranny doesn't heat up more than what is normal. In the winter the fans don't even kick on, summer they do, but its 105 and I've got the AC going.

hss0p - You live in Fresno? where abouts do you live and what do you tow? RV, boat or a rig? Just curious. I like getting to know local folks on the board. :D

Macpherson - Same questions... :D

Dickenson and Kearney...thats the side of town I grew up on. :D Do you work for Clovis Well Drilling? They're on the SE corner right?

I like Bald Mountain, Red Lake, Coyote Lake, and if you've got time Mirror Lake. Mirror is a dusy gettin in there. Theres actually a sign that says if you don't have lockers and 35's, don't go.

Nice. Thats right near Buchanon High right?

Thats me at the old Anderson Clayton cotton gin. The gin converted to a nice shop, stop in sometime if you like I'm in and out but look for the X-cab Chevy in front of the old scale house. I've been up to the lake right below Red Lake in a Toy, we go up Spanish 5-6 times a year. The burb in the pic is climbing out of the flooded creek last winter on the way back from Bald we almost made it to the tower. I popped a bead and had to turn back, with all four chained that bus does very well. Is there good fishing at Mirror never been, what is the traffic like?

Sweet, My uncle has his shop right down the road on California and Goldenrod.

I've only done the Mirror Lake Trail once. And there was noone else on it. Just me, my Dad, my uncle and a buddy. Thats who I usually wheel with.

Making it to the tower in the winter is a feat. Im surprised a 'burb could do that. :D

You and me both, we sat and watched a dozen or so jeeps trying to try to climb a good hill I just stayed out of the way until most of them left. I figured what the hell I went in all that way I was going to at least try. I made that hill three times, only us and a wrangler from LA "I think " 42 TSL bead locks unimog axles etc. made it. I was at 10psi with 16.5s and blew a bead we could not re seat it even with a power tank. The sun was getting low so we turned back. We did not quite get to the tower but could see it "200 yards away or so". That dam creek was 3-4" deep with ice and snow floating in it got the truck wet etc. It was a blast, chained up on all four corners was the only way that burb made it. I have some more good pics of the trip I'll try to upload the rest.
