I have the auto-dimming mirror & compass on my '04 D/A Silverado. Yesturday morning when I was driving to work it went crazy. The auto dimming quit working and the compass/temperature display kept turning on and off. While this was happening, I heard a clicking sound, like the relay was tripping on and off. I didn't think anything of it till I talked to a guy at work and he had the EXACT same problem with his truck. SAME DAY EVEN. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the fix. This morning when I drove to work everything was fine, or atleast I hope it was. The mirror is a factory item and I am wondering if it should be replaced, I have it on the list for a new intermediate shaft and re-flash so I was wondering if I should add another item to the list for the dealer to work on.
Thanks.

I think thats a common problem, I had the same thing happen to mine when the temp dropped below like 30 degrees(dont remember exactally) it was flashing a bunch of garble symbols, IIRC, once the temp rose, on the same trip everything was back to normal. Haven't had it happen since.

Yup....been there, done that! I've had the truck for about 1 1/2 years, 33000 miles and it has done it exactly one time! I left work in a pretty heavy snowstorm last winter and it was acting up (compass/temp dimming, characters looking like POST), so I turned it off and on to no avail. I finally got PO'ed looking at it and turned if off. About 1/2 way home (20 minute drive) I turned it back on and it has worked perfectly since then! This is one of those thing I wish would just break so I could get it fixed (under warranty of course!).

OK how do you turn it off ? I have two buttons on mine and they don't do anything.

Mine has 4 buttons (OnStar), but yours should probably have the same on/off button. IIRC, it is the one on the left side of the mirror....looks like a circle w/ a small line through one side. I'll confirm this later this AM when I finally make it outside....I'm battling a case of the lazy this AM! :D
