so who has any information on intakes for us gassers? i was reading over on the duramax board that the stock box is just as good as any aftermarket ones. is this the same for our trucks? i really like the exhaust on my truck, it looks to be a pretty free flow 3" almost true duals system. has anyone replaced the intake and actually noticed a difference? i cant afford a full setup right now but could probably swing a k&n replacement for the stock box. just wondering what everyones experience on this subject is. i put a k&n and flowmaster on my 89 350 and it made a big difference but it seems the stock stuff on my HD is the best of any truck ive owned so far. i did a search and could find anything. thanks guys!

Uhmm no. Turbodiesel = Forced feed motor

N/A Gasser(your truck) = must suck in air. Hence any restriction will cause lost of performance. Which is why most people after they get rid of factory air intake, feel more throttle responce, better (sometimes)MPG. Factory air intake is baffled for low sound, baffles impede air flow. Just don't forget to make swiss cheese out of front of the air box, behind headlight.

I have an Outlaw Air Intake sitting in the garage but haven't installed it yet. It's been snowing for the last 10 days and still is, so the intake install will have to wait a few more days.

I got the K&N setup on my 6.0 Added a few Mpg...Makes alot of noise when you get on the gas, kinda whistles...I have been asked if it had a blower...Sure buddy i tore down an 04 motor to slap on a blower

It's been snowing here for the last 10 days so I don't have any impressions with the new outlaw yet(just got it), but will post my observations.

Anyone have any experience with a Volant on a 6.0? I had one on the 5.7 in my old Yukon and it improved fuel economy as well as performace.

Haven't done it on the truck yet, but have one on my '96 Impala SS. I will tell you right out of the gate the Impala ran smoother, and had phenominal throttle response after installed compared to stock. I went with a K & N FIPK, mostly cause I got it second hand for real cheap, but most anything out there will flow better than stock, and thereby give you better seat of pants performance (and who knows, maybe a point or two on the dyno as well).

The real question is how much dirt are you willing to let in to do it. Lots of filters that have better flow do so at the price of letting a bit more dirt into the engine. On the other hand, the stock filter setup has the best filtration of most anything out there, but it's at a very slight MPG hit and a noticable seat of pants responsiveness.

i havent had a chance to take apart the intake setup so i dont know what all is in there, but has anybody experimented with improving that and keeping the stock filter? by "swiss-cheesing" the stock airbox, do yall just take a hole saw and poke a bunch of 1" or so holes in the bottom of the box?

Installing an aftermarket intake on your gasser will make a difference. Almost all intake systems made with the K&N style filter gain 10-14hp on the dyno. No claims, but dyno proven, thus increasing mpg by a hair. The stock exhaust for the 6.0L is quite a bit better than the 5.3L.
