Ive arranged to get a 55g drum of biodiesel from a delivery truck, maybe 20 miles away. The drum should be on a pallet, and the deliv. truck has a lift gate.

Whats the best way to tie down a drum? Push it in the corner of the bed and rope it tight?

It weighs around 500 lbs.

Any tips on this one? I dont make a habit out of moving barrels often.

I would take a tie down ratchet around the top of it, and crank it down pretty damn tight, then from 4 points, create an X over it, and use the one that you ratchet around it as a tie down/anchor point on the drum by making some loops/knots around it for for the ones tieing it down.

This is if you are standing it up..

If you are laying it down on the side, try to have a wooden box/frame for it so it doesnt roll around, and I'd ratchet it down to that quick frame, as well as anchoring it to the bed somehow so it doesnt slide around. That frame/box should stop it from really going anywhere when tight, but the whole thing could shift over.

Sounds like a plan.

Lets hope I dont manage to spill it!
