: I bet yall have never seen this before!!!
92bigred 01-21-2008, 03:39 PM I wanted my truck to be unique so one day i decided to put the turbo guage in a reall different position. Everyone that was owned an early model chevy truck knows that when u put an aftermarket radio that u have all that empty space where the old radio was. So i decided to fabricate a piece of sheet metal and put my pro comp turbo guage in its location. Take a look at the pic.
cuffnup 01-21-2008, 05:55 PM uh....no thanks
Jasondt2001 01-21-2008, 05:57 PM Slide that puppy over and get a EGT gauge in there! Paint it flat black and I think you got something! :thumb:
huthuthut 01-21-2008, 06:03 PM uh....no thanks
I was gonna say the same but I refrained :)
Sorry - a little too hi-pro for me.
92bigred 01-21-2008, 06:49 PM Slide that puppy over and get a EGT gauge in there! Paint it flat black and I think you got something! :thumb:
i already have one it is one a pillar guage.... but u know wat i like your idea so i might just try it...
SlowLS1 01-22-2008, 01:23 AM looks clean
dirtymax70 01-22-2008, 02:40 AM nice work!
Reineke 01-22-2008, 06:58 AM Good use for a useless hole after the radio upgrade. :Thumb:
J Wood 01-22-2008, 10:58 AM uh....no thanks
I'm with you.
I will give an "A" for effort though. It may look better painted black as stated.
cuffnup 01-22-2008, 08:43 PM ya me too...but just not for me....i would paint it to clean it up i think
ABQFirefighter 01-22-2008, 09:22 PM Good thing that it is BigRed's truck and not the guys who have the negative things to say about his work. BigRed, great idea for the place to mount it. I would try to mount a EGT gauge in there as well.
timowen1 01-22-2008, 09:39 PM 92bigred,
how big in diameter is the gage? looks like maybe you could get a pyro and boost side by side. maybe set them in place on a slight angle toward driver seat. a little paint and your good to go.
jeepj10jim 01-22-2008, 10:04 PM naw, you need diamond plate! Then it would be cool. I have a brand new pocket for that area if you need it. Yours for the shipping. I no longer have my 92 sub.
nekkidhillbilly 01-22-2008, 10:19 PM i have seen a tach there so its been done
durali04 01-22-2008, 11:24 PM That's nothin'. I stuck a microwave where that stupid glove box used to go. I wired up the controls to the steering wheel and now all I have to do is remember to stick some Orville's on the carousel before I take off and when I get hungry, I push the program button to "NUKE", dial up the volume and presto - fresh, light, fluffy popcorn at 70 mph.
StompinRound 01-23-2008, 12:21 AM ok am i going to be the only person to say it looks like shit?
honestly
yea is functional and serves it purpose...if it wa a straight pro-comp truck then yay it does what it needs
but if it is a daily driver, no way
txguppy 01-23-2008, 01:18 AM You're right.
steve smith 01-23-2008, 05:00 AM well, find a hole and plug it..he did like any red-blooded redneck would do.
eng158 01-23-2008, 09:04 AM very original way to think outside the box.
citadel 01-24-2008, 08:06 AM Well hell man, it's your truck. I couldn't thing of anything else better to put in there other than a big gauge. Except maybe some more big gauges. I would probablytry to get some paint on that sheet metal to give it a more factory look, but the diamond plate idea sounds cool too. Rock on man.

I can think of a few other things that would look just as good:
* beer tap
* cooler
* trash bin
* toolbox
* magazine rack
* chainsaw holder
ABQFirefighter 01-24-2008, 06:31 PM Man, some of you guys are real *****s!!!!
96GMC6.5L 01-24-2008, 07:34 PM Man, you guys are harsh. I think its a good way to use up that space. Way to go. I do agree with the diamond plate idea tho, that would be pretty
:bling:!!!
durali04 01-25-2008, 03:43 PM Just kidding - since when does driving a diesel pickup mean you can't have a sense of humor and you have to cry whenever you get the business?
I figure anyone who managed that space that way has the stones to take a couple jokes. All that matters is that he likes what he's done with it.
radar1053 01-25-2008, 07:20 PM uh....no thanks
I like the idea where it is at but the silver color done work for me. Where I work. I can powder coat the thing from 10 different colors so it might be an option if I went to do something like that

Ok am I going to be the only person to say your house in your garage looks like shit?
honestly
yea it's functional and serves it's purpose... but that roof looks like it's rotten and that drive way could use some concrete and a decent looking truck parked on it.
but if it's an out house that might explain things.
No offence though. :rolleyes:

Ouch!
TOTHEMAX! 01-26-2008, 10:53 AM i would put an egt and a boost guage in that spot. paint it black like everyone is saying and it will look better.
02DuramaxHD 01-26-2008, 01:22 PM take it easy on the guy...atleast he didn't go buy something that someone else thought of to fill the hole. Like making anything it takes a couple of prototypes to figure out the perfect thing...give him a break
cory e 05 dmax 01-26-2008, 01:50 PM good job man who cares its your truck and its how you like it. i just wish i could fabricate and then you would see some real rippin.
mdiesel89 01-27-2008, 08:25 AM Great use of an otherwise empty hole.
neubauej 01-27-2008, 09:42 AM I like the use of the otherwise useless hole, however, I am not fond of the sheetmetal. If you hit up a junkyard for an old railroad, or city truck, there was a radio delete panel that went there, molded in the factory plastics. If you could find one of those and mount your gauge/gauges there, It would look much cleaner IMHO. :)
Cooper50 01-27-2008, 10:00 PM I have another idea of putting the switches for driving lights and backup lights on a plate to fill the same spot. I agree that black would look nice in there.
JC PAINT WORKZ 01-27-2008, 11:59 PM i would paint it and maybe throw another gauge in there and it would look great... hard to do anything to those older dashes.. they dont give you much to work with.
That used to be a good place to keep a pistol.
nickyreno 01-29-2008, 12:05 AM -:t

ha ha very funny, no that aint my house, we just asked the dude if we could take pics in his yard just to give it that country style look... i just moved to a small town of la grange and live in a historical house... and no offense taken...
-also thanks for the support on the guage guys, i would hate to say it but i had to get rid of the truck and get a newer one, i got an 04 chevy 1500 extended cab 2wd and my new project is a 76' jeep cj... i will post some pics of both the chevy and jeep when i get them...

i think he was referring to the guy who was giving you a hard time...he wasn't saying that "your house" looked like crap, he was talking about the other dude.
cowboy2844 01-31-2008, 03:08 PM Never want to see that again looks like it belongs on a '67 jeep or some garage built vw
Davediesel3 02-01-2008, 02:12 PM Not a bad job, I prefer to match the dash color. I think it would blend in better than black or dimondplate. I chose to mount my guages in the overhead console where most uf the burbs have the controls for the rear a/c. (pics in my garage) had to pick up the console also, they didn't seem to put them in too many pick ups. But once again nice job on the install!
Partridge 02-01-2008, 05:48 PM 92BigRed- I've never been to La Grange, but ever since Dale Watson came out with that song "Truckstop in La Grange" I've wanted to go and find out if the girl behind the counter really is a fine thing.
