Anyone ever eat up a trans during the waranty period, and removed any aftermarket equipment (if applicable), taken it to the dealer...played dumb, and been like "WTF! i only tow my trailer for work, withing weight limits....yada yada yada..." (you know...what these trucks where made for...not walking all over Vette's) and got a dealer to replace it? I'm sure you could eat an allison in 100K with close to stock power and lots of towing...etc. Anyone???? -Murph

I am sure it has been done, but I would hope that most here would not stoop to that level...

The Allison warranty is ONLY in the 3yr 36k ,well it was in my model year. If your going to run addition power modifications and for what it cost to get the Allison to hold and allow the use of the power it ONLY makes sense to do the upgrade.

To answer your question definitely people have done just what you've described and gotten away with it.

But what is the point?

If you were to return to the power level that slipped the clutches it will only repeat failure. The dealer won't fall for it again! Not that they should have honored a warranty coverage to begin with or anyone should take advantage of the warranty coverage.

Haha...that was kinda the point. I don't want to Condone it....i truely do believe the "pay to play" theme. I'm 22 and i've had a bunch of really bad a** performance sh*t. 1000cc sport bikes, 100 cu. inch custom choppers, Diesels, Camaro's, Looking forward to a '08 or '09 Vette. And the wife is riding pretty too ('07 Z71 Avalanche). I've never been given a thing, work myself to the bone for all of it, but i'm PROUD TO PUT ON THIS ****IN BLUE COLLAR EVERY DAY.......AND EARN MY AMERICAN DREAM. My father wanted me to learn from him, not take his path......get smart, and earn the big bucks.......but i can't imagine a better, more respected existance than being just like him, he really is my hero. Anyway, i digress. I get criticized for my "investment" habits at times...but it's my money...and i'm happy. By the way, I'm Active Duty Navy, and i operate and maintain a U.S. Naval Reactor Plant as my "Day Job". Just kinda curious if anyone's ever been able to successfully play on GM's Dime....(then i know who to blame for the $60,000 Sticker price of these damn things!) Regards, Murph.

Aren't they teaching you anything in the service ,like be responsible for your own actions?

That's what you should be preaching to the choir not asking if anyone is playing on GM's dime.

Kinda stupid.

Just what I was thinking, you want to do everything but not own up to your responsibilities for your actions. Just because you say you are young and will do what you want then pay right along for the option to do so as well. Sounds like you might want to pick up your toys and go home if we dont want to play yoru way?

I was talking with the father inlaw (runs a parts and service dept for a chevy dealer) any way he was saying something about a GM internal notice. That states if they so much as find a pluged hole for a PYRO, your engine and power train warranty is voided. No questions asked.

never happen. gm can not prove that because you have a pyro that your "whatever" failed. unless your exhaust manifold cracked were the hole was. i can see them not warrantying a turbo under boost code because you tapped the intake for a boost gauge and left the fitting loose and was leaking to hell. not for an engine failure or injectors, you get the point.

See, I'm not flaming you or your father in law about this, but this post pisses me off to no end.
I bought the truck, if I want to paint it purple and blow flames out of the bed that's my business!!!! I WANT a EGT gauge and Boost gauge in there at the very least, if my installation causes problems then it's my dime!
But in the meantime, treat me as any other customer w/ a stock truck and FIND MY PROBLEM, DON'T be a close minded because I utilize tools I feel peice of mind having in my machinery.
Like I said, I'm NOT attacking you, but, this seems to be alot of what I've seen lately on the board.
I'm lucky enough to have a great dealership and I even asked before I started modding, they said "If you mess it up, you'll pay for it, but if it has nothing to do with what YOU've done or installed don't worry about it."

^^^^^^^

Right I get it all, I think along the same lines as you all do, as dose the father inlaw (has a 1 ton CC w/lly)

GM's reasoning The pyro is 1 of the 1st supporting mods to tuners and hot engine programs. That (in their eyes) = mods that have been installed and removed before the trip to the dealer. With no way to prove other wise you havent had one in you truck. They are under orders to call it owner abuse an thats that. Because if you needed a pyro under stock tune then it would have one form the factory (GM's take on the subject)

I wanted to run just the gauges (boost and pyro) just for my own peace of mind but have had to hold of till the 100k is up due to this.

Now as far as all dealers holding patrons to this I dont know. My father inlaw will go on a case by case basis.

The warranty is built into the price of the truck. If someone wants to blow up there shit and then try to get warranty, all the power to them. Might as well get your moneys worth out of that $50,000.

To all those flying off the handle.....i am more than willing to pay for my automotive enjoyment....and don't like anyone that tries to weasle out of their own debt. I posted to get info from you guys as to GM's Savy on the subject. I'm sure somebody knowledgable (Mike L maybe?), can tell if a tranny's been beat. I'm sure the responses will vary greatly........as we all know all dealers are not created equal.

OK I guess I took his short over view of these new polices a little bit to far in my own mind.

I Just got copies of the Bulletin's and read through them carefully and yes they will void the warranty coverage for anything the tech deems affected by the "power up device" not just limited to the engine itself. But trannys U-joins, drive shafts, Diff's, etc... But not just up an void everything I am sorry I jumped to that conclusion. They have several bulletins on the subject 1 is 11 pages an has pics of melted cracked and just plain destroyed pistons, destroyed heads, defunked rods, and wiped out bearrings Most people will not have any issues like said above NOT ALL dealers are created equal.

Bulletin

#04-06-04-054A-(01/11/07)

Sorry again for the up roar.

do a search here. they have been posted numerous times. warranty issues might be a key word in the search.

as far as the voided warranty a gauge does not indicated anything ,more than an aftermarket radio would. gm really doesnot have it together when it comes to gauges. so the if it needed to be in there they would have put it there does nothing for me. i gaurantee you that even on a stock tune with a big hill and a tall trailer loaded down you will reach unsafe limits on egt. with the plow on my truck and a load of sand in the bed i have seen 12-1300* stock tune going up some of the hills here near me in ct.

i am not saying that they should over look everything but some things just dont mean you have a tune in it. nor do some problems. just because a guy has head gasket leak doesn't mean his tune caused it. i have seen stock ones leak just the same. just like injectors, just like egr codes. it happens.

there are a couple truck on stock tuning that have split pistons as well......
