why doese diffrent aftermarket intakes make the turbo whistle so much louder? if these intakes dont make a -:t of a diffrence why is the turbo spool sound diffrent. sorry if this question sounds like alot of the outher air filter questions. i would just like to be able to explain why i have a louder turbo whistle with my afe stage 2. THANKS every body for this great learning forum!

I think that the stock airbox has alot of bends, curves, and corners that would dampen the sound quite a bit. The gasket sealed box definately doesnt help and it has to travel through the pleated paper filter which is another dampener.

On the other hand, aftermarket intakes are much 'smoother' in terms of corners and curves, and has a wide open area within the air filter, allowing sound to travel more freely.

Just my .02 cents..

some of its got to be the silencer that you remove(the thing that says 6.6 turbo)

I removed the little silencer thingy and noticed 0 difference in sound witch really confused me:confused:

also ran identical times at the track with a stock swisscheesed airbox and a delco paper filter as my stage 2 with the non progaurd element.

Well mine is much louder than before. AFE helped with that. I also added extra duct work to the filter for cold air as well.
