I am new to Rving.

I was towing a Keystone Raptor 3512, loaded with 2 ATV,
you know what? !
I took it out only 3 times,
first time to Chino Hills Prado park, there is no hills to climb.
second time, I took it to big bear, and I was only be able to go like 35 miles per hours, and I was blocking all the traffics. and my transmission temp is just under the red line!
third time, I took it to Jawbone caynon, and I have many many Class A, and trailers passing me!! and the transmission Temp is in the middle range!
today, I noticed that I have a towing button on the right side of my steering column!!!!! I did not even use that!
so I was wondering, if I would have pushed the towing button, will that make a lot of difference?

I have posted the above message in www.rv.net (http://www.rv.net)
and many people suggested me to post the questions here.

they also suggested me to have the truck sent to the dealer, because it is not normal.
the truck only has 18,000 miles!

I need help
thanks

Did you have it in tow/haul mode?

I have towed with and without the tow/haul feature on...I really couldn't tell any difference in the tranny temps either way. I tow a 28ft enclosed trailer with race car inside. It weighs probably 8-10,000lbs with tools and everything. I have been on 800 mile trips driving 75+mph. My temps rarely reach 200.

How much does the trailer weight with everything in it? That includes water, propane, fuel etc. Which truck do you have? Have you taken the whole setup to a scale? The TOW/HAUL will make a difference. Especially with a heavy load.

bamboo,

I have the Raptor 3612 Dual Slide that is even heavier than yours and I have never had the tranny temp get much over the 190-200 range. I would suggest using the Tow/Haul Mode when you trailer a heavy load. You should take it to the dealership and have them check it out. Have you changed your spin-on filter on the Allison yet? Check your fluid while your at it too and wipe it on a white cloth or towel and see if it looks burnt or is bright red and smell it too. I would definitely let the dealer check it out though. Good luck...BTW how do you like your Raptor?

Something is wrong here. Have you changed the fuel, air alli filters? You should be passing others going uphill instead of what is happening to you. Take it in to the dealer and tell them your story. T/H mode is helpful but I rarely use mine when pulling my 10K 5er and I dont notice a difference in my temps either.

Good luck and always WELCOME TO DP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
