Seems to me that my truck clatters more than normal here lately. Could it be because of the colder weather? Even after it is warmed up, it seems to clatter a little louder than normal. Anyone else think this is so with their trucks?

You will definitely get more clatter as it gets colder but once it warms up it should be business as usual. How many miles on your truck? This might be the first sign of injectors.

It's a 2003 with 20k miles. Also run Banks Stinger TLC kit (exhaust, otto-mind, wastegate, guages) and an AFE Stage 2. Run Stanadyne Performance Formula and Lubricity formula every tank as well. I may have our diesel tech check the injectors on the tech 2 just to see if anything wierd shows up.

Bartman are you pluging her in??if you are, like i did sevral days ago,i notice that pluging my BABY in messed with her..she clatter loud at start up and shuck even at normal temp. so the followinf day i left her by herself(no plug in),and she was fine, and no shacking.by the way it gets 12 degrees at night here in washington state(tri-city area)P.S. my wife knows all this SHE,HER is related to my Baby(my truck).

I believe they even say in your owners manual that, the engine will be louder in cold weather until it warms up.

Yes, I have been plugging her in. I'll give it a try unplugging...but I don't know why there would be a difference.

topdog, what is your milage? mine is 37000...i think it confuses the computer when cold air start from the turbo temp sensors and the bottom end is reading high temps..i'm no expert on this aleast i no that every time i plug mine in it shakes even when she reaches normal temps.

No winter cover, it's ranging from 20 to 40 here. Warms up fine, but I seem to be hearing more noise as well... 35k miles, 24k on this motor... hoping it's not injectors going bad, bad enough I limped the transmission without even having any power adders on while going through the continental divide on the alcan coming back to alaska.....

i will also change fuel stations if you are buying in city fuel. in city fuel= non truck stop fuel, you might have yesterday fuel and not fresh. i can tell a diffrence between in lack of milage.

tophog, I read your thread right after I posted mine. I buy all of my fuel from Flying J since they are only 4 miles from my house. I started noticing the clatter about 2 weeks ago after a really cold (for Albuquerque) snap. I suppose I am just overly cautious, but I am going to have the diesel tech at our dealership plug in the tech 2 and look at the injectors. I'll let you know what the outcome is.

My mileage is right at 21K

I think the engine noise is greater durring cold weather. I also think all the sounds the truck makes are louder in cold weather. Maby sound travels easier in cold air. I know the howl of the wind noise is louder.

Anyone noticing more clatter because of the winter blend?

My thought would be winter fuel........

My thought would be winter fuel........
Could be ...but that would mean I didn't notice it last winter

I have found that reding things on the forum has me a little more sensitive to how my truck runs, and how I think its running. Could be injectors. Could be the engine "loosening up" Different fuel supply. Different additive. Carbon build up.....

Who knows, really. I admit, I am paranoid at times.

You should hear them when they are really cold. It sounds like 5 guys with ball peen hammers are beating on the engine block. -30 here the other night and I forgot to plug it in. Ooops!! After some driving though the clatter goes away no problem.

My truck is spoiled ...is ALWAYS parked in heated garage and don't think it's ever sat a night outside with temps below 40....so I know when I start mine the rattle isn't a result of the truck freezing it's balls off all night. :)

116k miles. 4 degrees outside. No clatter. Very quiet. Purrs like a kitten. Amsoil synthetic oil and diesel treat 2000 additive.
