: I'm OK, right?!

This week it's been pretty cold, for North Carolina anyway, with temperatures in the 20's and 30's. When I crank my truck up in the morning after its been sitting all night there is a puff of white smoke. The rest of the day when I crank it up there is no smoke. I'm going on a trip tomorrow and just want to make sure that this is because of the cold and not injectors. The truck seems to be running strong and there is no sign of diesel fuel in my oil. I had my injectors replaced about 15,000 miles ago. Any input would be great! Thanks.

Mine does the same thing when it is cold and sat overnight and not plugged in. I think it is just that with the colder temp it delays ignition of the fuel (longer cranking before starting, cylinders take a little longer to reach fire point) and what you see is some unburnt fuel that got pushed out of the cylinder that didn't cook off and then clear. I have had no injector problems and no way to read fuel rates. What I do for peace of mind is always calculate mileage at fill ups to make sure it stays consistent and also keep an eye on my oil level to watch for any increase.

Sounds good. I needed some peace of mind before I take a 700 mile trip. I think I'm going to run some Stanadyne through there on this trip just to be safe. Thanks guys.

i started mine yesterday morning 15 degrees, not plugged in. it looked just like a gas vehicle with the same color smoke, if you want to call it that. no biggie, after it warmed up it was fine.

Yeah, you've got quite a bit of white smoke with a cold start so I think I'm ok and it looks a tad bit colder there! ):h
