Hey guys, first post here.
My dad has a '04 Duramax LB7 I believe. Now you have to understand that he is crazy....so his buddy went out and helped him get a Hypertech Programmer and set it on the highest setting and then plugged up an Edge Juice w/ Attitude monitor and set it on the highest setting. (He said he wanted more power or he was going to sell the thing and get a Cummins). Now, he loves the truck!!!!!!!! I went for a drive in it yesterday and it flies.....covered 3 lanes up with black smoke! BUT, I need some inside on these motors. I had an '01 a couple years ago, but hated it and it was stock. All I know is Cummins' Have a 12 valve and a 24 valve.

Anyways, I told him he needs a better intake system and bigger exhaust. It has a K&N in the stock box now...exhaust is stock. He hardly tows...and when he does, it is light.

Can you guys help me out with some pointers about the truck, so I can relate the info to pops and maybe he won't melt down the motor? What are some nice bolt-on exhaust systems for these things? His truck is a '04 LB7 I guess, has 7,000 miles, 4x4 4 door dually.

I appreciate any help in advance,
Justin

P.S. Also noticed it makes 25# boost. Is that enough?

Is it an Alison automatic? If so, I think everyone is going to recommend getting the transmission updated with all that power added. If not, he will be replacing clutches/torque converter before long.

Stage 3 Sun coast and converter will be a reco. Without it you will end up in limp mode on the trany.

I've been running Hypertech + Attitude for a few months now. My truck, including transmission, is otherwise stock. With both chips in highest setting, the tranny limps within a few seconds of wide open throttle.

From my limited 0-60 testing, the fastest combination on my truck appears to be Attitude at #5 and Hypertech at +30hp. In 70-degree weather, my best two-way average 0-60 time is 5.4 seconds. Truck is 2wd crew-cab w/ 285 tires.

The limiting factor from my experience is definitely the transmission at this point. I don't think that an airbox or exhaust would do much for me, other than allowing me to limp the tranny 0.3 seconds sooner :)
