I would like to get a chip for my 05 duramax. It seems as if every post people are fighting over which one is the fastest. I really dont care which is the fastest but i would like a little more power without giving up any reliablity or breaking something. i was thinking about a edge but when i talked to their tech they said to wait a couple of months for them to get all the bugs worked out. Any suggestions whould be helpfull.

Based on what you've said I would go ahead and get an Edge with the Attitude. They will upgrade them later and you can play for now. I have one for sale if your interested.

Do a search and you'll see very few people have any complaints about the Predator on the LLY but there are many complaints about the Edge. IMO Edge did a crummy job of pre-testing the LLY version. There shouldn't have been as many problems to correct "in a few months" if they'd have done their homework as Diablo did. I don't mean to knock Edge, but their LLY version problems are a set-back for them in the market share. There are a few vendors here really trying to sell the Edge products in every thread they can - why is that?

Why spend a lot of money for something that a hacker has put together in a hurry to get to market, that can cause major problems and create warranty questions. A truck is a truck. If you want a go fast vehicle, get a Vet or a Benz AMG or similar.

oteo125,

We sell almost all the different brands and we consistently sell more Edge with Attiutudes because of the safety de-fueling feature. That said you really need to look at what you do with your truck and how/what power level you will operate any module at. If you're looking for a nice 40-60 HP gain any of the products will do a great job. If you want more HP then the gauges and de-fueling features start to make sense. If you have any questions just call us.

The Predator has been about the most trouble free unit out there so far. Edge has a history of making a fine product for the Duramax, but I think the Edge Tech's recommendation may be wise...

I guess I got stuck on the "safest" thing he asked. I still vote the Edge. I have the Predator and love it. I also have a Quadzilla and like it, but the "safest" is the Edge w/ Attitude. Even the predator instuctions warn you about EGT problems. The Attitude when fully installed monitor these for you. It also does the power backdown for the tranny if it slips, and limits extra power till the truck is warmed up. I have owned Edge products since the day they were available for the Duramax, and think they are by far the "safest".

Good point. I didn't pick up on the "safety" aspect of his questions when I first read the post.

Everybody has different needs. Some pull very heavy and often. These trucks benefit from the Edge built in protections so you don't have to stare at an EGT gauge. Others, like me, pull much lighter loads infrequently and just want a little extra HP from a programmer to give it a little more oooooomf! In my case I won't see elevated EGT problems happening to me very often (if at all) so a gauge alone would give me piece of mind. You have to tailor things to your needs.

I would say from what I have heard here, that he may want a TTS tow tune. That would be about as safe as it gets. No worry about EGT's. And if the PL III comes out pretty fast he won't have to wait for a spare ECM.

Oteo125,

The new TS Performance activator will be out at the end of January to the middle of Feb. It will be adjustable from 0 to 90+hp on a turn dial. The Activator was not designed to be a race box but should stack with others on the market.

I should have consulted with you first, so sorry.

Egde is the way to go. The problems with using a programmer such as Hypertech,
Superchips, or Diablo is that they don't monitor egt's, tranny slippage, or defuel during
shift points. Your only going to pay $300-400 for a programmer compared to $800 for a module such a Edge with attitude, but you get what you pay for. The Allison is about
$6000 keep in mind.

I have tried a number of different LLY solutions.

For towing and all around drivibility on an otherwise stock pickup, I would recommend the TTS Tow. But it is not adjustable, and requires you to swap the PCM. Once you install it, you forget it's there, other than the truck just plain runs better under all conditions.

Second place I would say the Predator, which I would rate as a "best buy" due to the price and features. It's adjustable, and has serious power on the "hot" level.

Personally, my truck did not like the Edge. I think the Edge is the coolest product on the market, with excellent features, but they seemed to have missed something in the tunes themselves.

Got the Edge/Attitude and problem free. Great for towing my 5er and is fast enough for me on level 3 ( no tranny upgrade yet)
Moniters all the vital signs

If your not in a hurry to get a box, wait a couple weeks and try our Activator module. It is a safe box that can be turned from 0HP to 90+HP by the twist of a knob. No need to stop and reload a new program. This can be adjusted while driving down the road at highway speeds. The Activator installs in minutes with very little effort and can be removed easily when needed. If you have any questions or we can help you with anything else give us a call at

Has anyone else tried the superchips programmer? I understand that it has not been on the market very long. I am looking for about 60-70 hp and a little better fuel economy.

I was using the Superchips programer for awhile, that is until I got gauges. If you don't mind keepin your foot out of it it does give you some nice power and shifts pretty well on all modes. But theirs no way I would run it without gauges again. Heres what I experienced.

Tow/Safe - No problems with EGTs wihtout towing maxes out a 1250 underfull throttle on steep hills. Towing a 7000lb stock trailer empty up moderate hills and I could run the egts up quickly to 1400+ runnin through the gears or maintianing speed at 75mph on steeper hills.

Performance/Tow - Never towed in this mode but I could max my auto meter pryometer out before I could get my foot of the throttle of I wasn't careful. Easily runs 1600+ degrees when pulling hills if you stick your foot in it. Occasionally triped the over boost code, mostly in colder weather.

High Performance - EGT's seem to run about the same as the Performance tow untill you get in the higher RPMs then it climbs starts climbing a little earlier and I never max it out but 1600+ I'm sure is possible.

Overall to hot for me, I no longer run the Superchips because of these temps, I have a completly stock, and my EGT is installed pre turbo via the Hoot method.

The chip does provide good though power I raced my truck against the tech who sold it to me in his 2002 ford 7.3 with all the mods including propane, exhaust, intake, double stacked chips the works and I could easily keep up with him until about 30mph then he had no chance of touching me. He was quite frustrated afterall he had over 9 grand in mods and I had $300 and running better then him.

I have an 02 with the edge and 242,000 miles on it and over 100k have been with the edge installed and i usually try to run it on 2 but i have a real hard time keeping it turned down due to the fact i have several buddies with powerstrokes who i likw to play with and the only time i had a problem was about 3 months ago it would not start,i unhoohed the edge and monitor and went back to stock, the next day i reinstalled it and itr worked fine, this happened twice,i finally called edge(even though i bought it on ebay and had no sales receipt, they told me to send it to them as they had some problems with that and they sent me a whole brand new unit (manufacture date 1 week old) with new box and they paid return shipping all for free and to top it off i had accidentally left something else in the box i sent it in and they returned it also with a note stating they had found it in my box and gave me a new warranty that is good service

I vote for the Banks Gun myself. But anything over level 3 is on a time limit with the trans. At 3 and below though, pulls the trailer great.
