I have a little leak on one of my oil cooler lines. I would like to replace the set and was wondering which manufacturer and/or vendor you 6.5 ers would recomend. I noticed some factory style ones and the brainded SS hoses. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at what Greg at Lubrication Specialists and John at Kennedy Diesel have to offer.

Factory lines suk period, poor design; replacing with factory will just leak again, for a KISS solution I recommend setup Greg @ www.lubricationspecialist.com sells, you can locally fab them somewhat cheaper but not by much at local hydraulic shop fittings on block have a unique thread pitch not commonly carried, metric to SAE IIRC.

Several guys have fabbed their own, in addition to leaks at crimps the GM lines have been known after block fitting retainer clips rot to have lines let go and 0 psi oil at power isn't recommended for health of the 6.5

I wasn't sure if John still carried remote lines another worthwhlie vendor be sure to check their offerings as well www.kennedydiesel.com

From what i have read and what i saw on my truck when i put it on the hoist was 1/2" National Pipe Threads (NPT) at the filter housing. You can use pipe fittings found at your local hardware store. A Street Elbow 1/2
will screw into the block from there you can use braided hose, hydraulic hose etc or hard pipe till your past the oil pan then use hose from there
that will make it easy to get at if you ever go there again. You'll never worry again about leaks at the block.

A Street 45 degree fitting maybe useful also

I will be doing this soon. Remove front drive shaft and cross-over pipe if necesary.

Does anybody sell premade lines beside the dealer ? I saw Kennedy and Lube specialists kits but I don't need an oil cooler just new lines. Should I just get them made. Both my rigs need em.

Dorman makes the lines. You should be able to find them in your auto parts store. SSD also carries them.

Two years and 20,000 miles ago I bought the Dorman OEM type lines from Rockauto. I bought brand new clips and block fitting O-rings from my local GMC dealer. @ 1.5 hours to install. 2.5 if you include cleanup.

I never really looked at them that closely. They have clips ? Is that why Lubespecialts kit includes a new cooler. I may want to go that route then. NAPA only carries one of the lines. I might return it then. Maybe I gotta crawl under it and take a good look. I wanted to do this becuase the crimps are leaking plus I'm changing my grill from Sealed beam to Composite so easy to do them with grill off.

The clips secure the line in the fitting on the block. The end for the cooler has threaded fittings that a metric thread pitch.

Plus the cooler is included because the fittings on the old one get stripped out too easy....

Hey guys,

This is my first post but I have been reading quite a while and I just finished the same problem. I just removed the fittings from the block, installed 90 degree NPT elbows to JSE and made hoses which I connected to a 18X8X1.5 engine oil cooler mounted in the stock location. Really easy cheap and everything can be picked up at an industrial supply store.

I installed the DSG oil cooler kit when I had my engine in peices because the factory ones are prone to leaks (learned that from the old 95) and it was on the shelf.

10,000Kms and no leaks. I hope that I can add 2 0's to the end of that number and still have no leaks.

In block fittings are 1/2" NPT, but those are just "sockets" the metal part of the lines fit into the socket, and use a 14 or 16 gauge spring wire clip to retain them. Like TD said, it's trouble waitin to happin

Where the metal part of the line meets the rubber part or the line, there is a crimp to hold them together, that's where the stock lines leak.

I think I am going to order the whole new kit from lubespecialist. I think he is a supporting vendor because TD put the link in his post. Price is fair and he had a point . They include a new cooler because the fittings usually strip on the old one during dissassembly. I could see that happening. If TD recommneds him that's good enough for me.

I just got my new lines and cooler in the mail from Lube Specialists and I must say the quality looks fabulous. Can't wait to install them and stop the dripping.
