There has recently been some talk of locking out first gear for pulling the sled. I was just wondering how you would go about doing this? Thanks guys!

I haven't tried it, but I would say to make a trans tune with the part throttle 1-2 shift and the WOT 1-2 at like 1 mph should do it. As soon as it starts to move, it would shift into 2nd gear.

thats how i made my tune i'm going to try it tomorrow i set mine to only do it in 4 low by changing pattern c also set rpms real low for shift

finaly got the time to load the tune and try it. everything works fine, don't have a load to put on it and see how well it works but it does shift to second as soon as i let go of the brakes.

in the tcm tune:

part throttle 1-2 shift = all zeros
part throttle 2-1 downshift = all zeros
full throttle 1-2 upshift speed = all zeros
full throttle upshift rpm = all 200's or something less than idle rpm
full throttle 2-1 downshift speed = all zeros

not yet that will be this week hopefully. the tune we ran last time was around 490 rwhp so will see how it does with this new tune hopefully well ) if we can get those 60 ft times down i think we should be in good shape i wont launch at 2700 rpm this time LOL

actually, if you're going to launch in second gear, launch as high of an rpm as you can. For one, the gear is taller so you need help getting it moving, but also the second gear allows a much higher rpm launch than first gear without having to worry about traction, hopping the tires, etc.

When I tried it my truck datalogged slower using second gear to launch, but I could only get about 2400 rpm with the new 1058 converter, which is right where Mike L says they stall (well, 2300 here http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=203415 ). If you can launch at 2700 rpms it should fly and not have the sideways movement that your first gear launch had, plus save time without a 1-2 shift.

I would at least try it and see if the truck et's better.
