: Oil analysis question?

I have never gotten an oil analysis done on any of my vehicles. I would not be sure where to go for one it I did, but I have had questions about this test for a while.

Say you drain your oil after 3000, 6000, or 10,000 miles. You never really get 100% of the old oil out anyway. So this would mean that you still of some of the old oil intrained through out your engine along with any of the particles or chemicals that you had in there that you were going to test for.
If you get a test every time or every other time you change your oil you would still be getting boggus results thinking that your oil or you so called air filter was bad and not doing what it was designed for.
I am not sure what all the numbers mean on the test anyway. All I see is
Iron 13
Chromium 0
Lead 28. Does this mean a percantage of what is in the oil or miligrams or what?
Do any of the parts that are in the engine have the possibilities of giving off some of these particles when they become hot or have had accessive wear?

Has anyone ever taken a brand new vehicle and run it for at least an hour and taken an oil sample to see how it comes out? I bet they would be even worse than say after 15,000 miles of normal oil changes.
How accurate are these test anyways. I am sure they do not treat the samples like they do blood tests. So this would mean that the test equipment might be contaminated before your sample.
Other things to look at are how clean are you when you check your dipstick? Do you accidently touch the side of the tube when trying to put it back in and maybe get some dirt on it. Or how clean is the rag you use to wipe the stick off. And what about the filler neck. How easy is for things to get in that way.
I know there are those that say they have had tested before and after installing parts and have had changes in their tests. Maybe those were justified.

I am just trying to clarify my questions here. I don't mean to affend anyone for my comments.

You want to look for big jumps in your numbers with the oil analysis. Oil that can not be completley drained during oil changes won't cause drastic increases in your numbers.

Go to polaris labs web site and they have a sheet on how to break down and read your oil analysis.
