Ok, I am trying to decide on 2 subwoofers. I am leaning towards the JL10W3v2's. I see that they offer several impedance options.
I basically need a 2 ohm load for my amp. MTX 500D. To get a 2ohm load I will need (2) 2ohm DVC speakers in series. I understand the series vs. parallel wiring concept, but is there any difference in sound quality or something I am missing by wiring in series?
Also, I have looked at other subs. Crossfire and memphis. Anyone have an opinion on these?
At any rate they will all be going in a probox. 5.7" depth, .70 cu ft
Thanks in advance for any info.:)

If you wire 2 2ohm speakers in series you have a 4ohm load at the amp, if you wire those speakers in parallel your amp must deliver the power into the 1ohm load (which is difficult for many amps). Wiring parallel would be better for power output IF the amp is able to deliver such power at very low resistance (many amps will not)

exactly what he said........and depending on how many watts your running those jl's will hit hard

Do not (per JL) use a series connection between the subs themselves:
http://www.jlaudio.com/tutorials/wiring/index.html (Check out "The DVC FAQ" and "Wiring your subs")
If you get two Dual-2 Ohm subs and wire each sub's voice coils in series you will be at 1 Ohm per sub. Wire these in parallel to the amp and the amp will see 2 Ohms.
ImageDynamics: http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/ makes some good shallow subs.
So does:

10w3v2-D2s are great subs..you got it right, wire the voice coils in series and the subs parallel, unless your amp can handle 1.5 ohms, then get some D6s and series the whole thing...

5.7" depth. Is that under the seat?
You can use the peerless 10" XLS driver, at 4.5", behind the CC seat.

holly poop! I missed the part about the probox at the end. .7 CU FT is optimum for ONE 10W3V2...too small for Two. I have two of the 8W3V2s behind my seat and it's plenty, it doesn't rock the block, but it sounds good...

No, no...
That mounting depth and cu.ft. size is per side. And yes this box will go under the seat of my extcab.
Here's a link to the box (http://www.proboxusa.com/products.asp?cat=24)
Thanks,

You asked about memphis. I would stay with JL on the sub's. I am running memphis mids and JL mids in my boat and both sound great! I am also runnig a JL 10w6 (i wanted a 12 but did not have the room) That kick a$$
