Hi, I too am having problems with my ISS. I have read several threads on this forum and are a little confused about this repair. Should I lube it, clamp it or glue it (permatex)??? Is there a permanate repair? If I lube it, will I have to do this often? Any advise?

I WORK FOR A WARRANTY COMPANY AND I GET ALOT OF CLAIMS FOR THIS REPAIR. HONESLTY ITS EASIER TO JUST TAKE IT TO A REPAIR FACILITY AND HAVE THEM DO IT . THE GM PART # SHOULD BE - 19153614 @92.00 $$ AND THE LABOR SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 0.7 OF AN HOUR.

If I purchased this new part (19153614), is this a ISS that will not make any noises anymore. Does this new part hold up better than the stock one?

The new one is supposed to be better but some say they too start to clunk. My new one is doing just fine. If I were you, I would just go buy one of the new ones and put it on ($60)... keep the old one in case the new one starts bumping. While you have the new one on your truck drill and tap the old one and install a grease fitting. That way you can simply shoot a little grease in it if you have to re-install it.
BTW, don't seperate the shaft to drill and tap it. I will mess up the splines and make it worse.

GMs warranty repair for the first time is to lube it.
Anyway, I would try that first as that is the cheapest route.
