How important is it to warm up a diesel in the morning before driving off? I know in new gas motors the manual usaully says to start it and drive off slowly. Can this be done on a diesel as well? My friends tell me that diesels have to be warmed up more than gas motors but can't explain why.

its good to let it warm up for maybe a min or 2 but a diesel could set at idle for a few hours and still not get up to normal operating temps, its also a good idea to wait for your oil pressure to rise before driving
