: Gale Banks or not...
joispoi 01-03-2005, 07:39 PM I finally figured out the low coolant issue- bad sensor. Now, I'm looking for more power. Banks has a nice system for my 6.5, but I'm not sure that I like the price. It seems like everything that's included can be bought separately from other manufacturers, for less money ( downpipe, exhaust and air filter). Am I missing something, or are they overpriced?
HowieE 01-04-2005, 12:33 PM Talk to John Kennedy at http://www.kennedydiesel.com/ .
Banks used to be a quality company with customer support but not any more.
Seems like Bank's would like the 6.5 to slip into the past based on the price I saw for their system.
Turbine Doc 01-04-2005, 02:57 PM Banks is okay, I have it but they seem to have little time for 6.5s anymore their focus is on DMAX, Cummins, & Strokes, I would point out though you should support our advertisers here; they pay for this site. JK does have a good system and customer care after the sale.
nineD5wonton 01-04-2005, 05:02 PM what's that "ram air" intake they have? How much is the whole kit?
joispoi 01-04-2005, 05:47 PM the ram air is a little scoop that's supposed to go on the air filter box. I don't think that it does much, but that's just my opinion.
Bumpin' Yota 01-04-2005, 06:40 PM i wouldnt bother with the kit from banks, just pull out your snorkel thats in the fender, put a AFE stage 7 filter in it, and a full straight pipe exhaust. Much cheaper, same result. ;)
The next mods would be EGT, Boost, and oil pressure gauges.
After that its ALL this site! http://www.kennedydiesel.com/ :D
nineD5wonton 01-04-2005, 07:24 PM ahhh, I gottcha, I was under the impression that it was a new "upper intake piece" I bought the truck about 3 months ago, and it already has the banks exhaust on, as well as a K&N filter. The cat is also gutted. How much louder will it be if I replace the muffler w/ a straight pipe? Thanks
CanadianRigger 01-04-2005, 10:28 PM At idle you should hardly notice anything, maybe just a slight rumble. Normal driving just slightly louder than normal, put your foot in it and nothing but a sweet rap knocking the eardrums off who-ever your passing...., well i have 4" and its the sweetest sound i've ever heard! Turbo whistle on lower revs while sitting still is pretty sweet too...
oh yeah and for the guys that want to know, on dry pavement, braked start, 1800 rpm, +/- 20' rubber, 0-60 in 13 seconds. I think i got near 12.5 secs with no rubber on the ground. ):h :ro)
quantum mechanic 01-04-2005, 10:32 PM With full turbo, it quickly goes from a mild exhaust note to more of an air blower noise. Open it up. I was next to a newer gasser chevy in traffic today and when he gunned it, the exhaust note was deafning. I couldn't hear my engine over his. I wasn't trying to race (a felony in texas) but he never pulled away from me.
nineD5wonton 01-05-2005, 05:12 PM Nice, that's what I was looking for. I thought that the Banks exhaust would be pretty loud, but it's not. Noone believes me that it's aftermarket exhaust. I guess I'll have to rip the muffler off.
