: Scary Oil Analysis
arguy 01-03-2005, 07:03 PM Here is one to critique:
Iron 13
Chromium 0
Lead 28
Copper 139 !!!! YIKES!! -:t  Censored
Tin 0
Aluminum 3
Nickel 0
Silver 2
Silicone 32 (only 1500 miles on this oil)
Boron 29
Sodium 27
Potassium 167 !!!! Holy Poop
Fuel A
Water >0.1
Glycol N
First oil change after injector replacement, they did pull a sleeve when the cooling system was full. The Copper really scares me, ran with crankcase full of fuel a little while. I do not understand the silicone either, again only 1500 miles on this oil. Truck has 150,000 miles and from the Vin check it looks like this was the first set of injectors. I will change the oil again in 1500 miles and test again. This oil change was done for free by the stealer so I am not sure of the cleanliness of the sample.
Run LC20 in oil and FP60 in fuel and your UOA will improve. Also, spend the extra $20 to have Dyson Analysis interpret the info for you.
Kennedy 01-03-2005, 09:27 PM Which air filter are you running?
I'd dump the oil quickly if there was glycol entry to the crankcase.
Frank Blum 01-03-2005, 09:33 PM Did you drain a few quarts of oil before taking the sample? If not, that is a problem. Later! Frank

Stock air cleaner
Frank, I did not take the sample. The stealer did...
SPICER 01-03-2005, 10:57 PM I would dump the oil, refill, and recheck in 3k miles. Follow the instructions for good sampling technique. One bad analysis means very little. Could definitely be poor sampling technique. SPICER

I would also recommed what Spicer said. Make sure the sample container and cover is clean and catch the sample about midway of the drain from a clean flowing stream.
akdiesel 01-04-2005, 12:38 AM Stock air cleaner

Oh no. Did we open Pandoras box?
Get another sample like mentioned.
arguy 01-04-2005, 08:08 PM Thanks, I will run this oil for 3K miles and test again. I wanted to get several opinions to reaffirm my feelings on this matter.
Again thanks... :)
SPICER 01-04-2005, 09:25 PM I would also CLOSELY inspect your air intake system. Be sure ALL hose clamps are tight, filter is in place and seal on the filter is in good condition. AC Delco filters tested well, but I have seen inconsistencies in the seal. I have used RTV sealant on one in the past to ensure it was sealed. SPICER

I have checked this fairly carefully but I did not think about the seal between the element and the canister. I will look at that again and replace with new AC Delco to be sure. How else would that much dirt show up on oil only 1500 miles old.
Frank Blum 01-04-2005, 10:13 PM Who knows what he caught the sample in. A coffee cup, pop can etc. All metals carried to the pan will be right on the bottom of the pan. Later! Frank
Jim659 01-04-2005, 10:26 PM Maybe it's just me but, I would get that oil out of my truck now! Why take a chance, it's only oil. Run the new oil 1500 miles and then do an analysis.
dmax lover 01-04-2005, 11:58 PM I was looking over on bobstheoilguy.com and thought I saw that high silicon readings can be from the new gaskets...

Kennedy 01-05-2005, 09:51 AM Change it now, run it for a couple hundred miles and do it again. If there is glycolin it, it will eat the bearings..
Sample when warm, and as shortly after running as possible. Open drain, and allow a quart or two to exit before filling the bottle. I double or triple rinse my bottles with the oil being sampled. Fill 1/2 full, cap it, shake it and dump it, then fill full and dump, and then fill again.
I have never had a bad oil analysis nor a questionable seal with a Uni foam filter in my truck. Looking at the seal on the AC Delco units, I can't see how the seal could be bad, but IIRC the rubber was a little porous. The box compresses the seal pretty good though.
BlueMaxxxx 01-07-2005, 04:51 PM I'd drain that oil right away. I'd not put more than 500 miles on it, drain, run another 500, drain run 1500 and sample. Basicly I'd want to flush the livin snot out of it. Id buy the cheapest oil like regular Rotella, about $6 a gallon.
I'd also stay far far away from voodo psychotic additives that won't do sh** other than waste good $$$. I certainly wouldn't spend a extra $20 from Dyson for a oil analysis ! ROTFLMAO
