: Best chip for fuel mileage
Bozeman 01-11-2008, 09:14 PM I'm buying a truck that had an edge attitude chip that just crashed. It's and 04 LB7. He had some problems with no starts so I assume this chip going out probably did it. I'm mostly concerned with fuel mileage. Will and edge upgrade drop my mileage? or is another chip a better option. Aparently Edge said they would replace it for around $350. Any advice would be appreciated. Oh, he was getting around 19-21 with the Edge and stock it's only getting 15 mpg in the winter.
scramHD 01-11-2008, 09:32 PM The edge should increase mpg. My Quad sure did. Im 17-21. You can find other tuners and modules and programmers that work as well or better. In the latest Diesel World mag there is an article on tuners, modules, and programmers. Check it out. You may be able to find a nicer unit on this marketplace or Ebay for 350 though.
mrhatefull 01-11-2008, 10:44 PM I got a best of 23mpg with my Diablosport Preditor set on 65hp this summer. Winter mpg is around 19. These figures are combined highway (60-65mph)/ country road (35-45mph) driving, figured by hand. I'm happy as heck with it, but I would love to give EFI Live a try...

Just curious.... what/how is mpg "figured by hand"? Is this not using trip milage indicator, just odometer or what and why? Probably a dumb question, but if I don't ask, I don't know........:confuzeld

I believe what he's saying is...He's caculating his miles drove by gallons with a caculator instead of going by the trucks DIC (computer)...

Tuners throw the DIC off. If you want accurate MPG's divide the miles traveled by gallons used to get there.
And try to fill up at the same pump everytime if possible. It will give you a pretty accurate reading in most cases.
Longhorn294 01-19-2008, 12:47 PM So... your saying the odometer is correct for miles driven but the trip milage indicator is not?
mtchard 01-20-2008, 09:48 AM Yes, the odometer is correct, but the DIC doesn't calculate the fuel used correctly when you are using the tuner. So if you want to accurate calculate the mpg you have to hand calculate it. If you are not using a tuner the DIC is accurate.
LB7 heaven 01-20-2008, 01:21 PM I've got the edge and it sucks! Now with the winter blend #2 I'm getting 12mpg.

What level are you set at to get that kind of mileage?
HEAVYdutyDMAX 01-20-2008, 07:20 PM Your best bet for good mileage will most likely be a Hypertech on lvl 3. I really like my edge but i didnt buy it for mileage gains. When i ran hypertech only, i could get up around 20/22 mpg on the highway with 35's.
fieldoc 01-21-2008, 06:00 PM I tried the edge for awhile. Power was nice but gave no mpg help. Running the predator for the last yr btween 65-85 and seems to get best mpg on 65 but truck likes 85 better, or was it that I like 85 better? Now I am so confused.

My DIC is no more or less accurate than before I installed the edge w/attitude when compared to hand calculated mileage.
Programmers don't always foul up the DIC.

Edge isnt a programmer. Also it doesnt sound like you have used a downloader to change your speedo. So, your DIC should be accurate.

Okay, I said programmer - meant tp say tuner. mtchard said tuner. Edge modules modify the factory tune. so by my way of thinking that's a tuner of some sort, even if it's not what he meant.
