I was on here a while back talking about buying a reg cab 07 classic with LBZ.

I was all set to buy and then could not get the truck. No dealer was willing to dealer trade with my dealership so I gave up.

Since then I had a 3/4 ton Yukon that I did a bunch of stuff to and then sold and bought a used BMW M5.

The other day a customer came in and traded a truck.

2001 Chevy Silverado Reg Cab 2wd Diesel.

Woo Hoo!

It took me all of 5 mins after the deal cleared to buy it.

Now, I have big plans for this truck.

I want as much as I can get as far as bolt on power.

I dont know a ton about the diesel game having done mostly gas turbo cars since Im in that business but I have some ideas.

My plans consist of:

Banks Big Hoss Bundle
Rebuilt injectors with 50hp tips
Air Dog fuel system with upgraded filter (3 micron I think)
Larger Trans oil pan and diff cover (finned)
Upgrade the tie rod ends
All royal purple fluids
Evans cooling coolant
Upgrade to 07 style 16's or maybe 17's and some new all season rubber.

I plan to order this stuff all at once and install in one shot. The kicker to me is that all this stuff will cost as much as my intercooler/radioator setup was on my subaru.

I was also contemplating a turbo upgrade. Nothing crazy, just something a little more efficient. I dont nessesarily want more boost, just a more efficient turbo to hopefully aide in keeping down egt's.

What do you all think?

Some things to note.

I never tow...ANYTHING
I have a 4 mile commute and thats the bulk of what this truck will see. I plan to keep it on the lowest setting most of the time. Just want the power on tap for fun, a occasional dyno pull and maybe a couple of trips to the drag strip. If I want to beat on something Ill take out the M5.

The truck has 78k on it right now and is a 1 owner. The previous owner says he didn't use it to tow but did has a welder in the back most of the time. All maintinence was done regularly at my dealership.

What do you all think of my plans and do you have any suggestions?

welcome to the club! that sounds like a good list of parts but do some reading on here first. Most guys do the exhaust, intake tuner gauges trans route. It's easy to make big power on these trucks. sounds like you scored a rare truck. enjoy:)

I wasn't very impressed with just the Banks system alone, I like the Quad pretty good for a handheld tuner, but depending on what kinda power you are trying to make there are many options. Definately get an exhaust and intake, then tuner w/ gauges. Save for trans if you're going for big power, and ENJOY with cosmetic upgrades in meantime. If the injectors ain't broke don't fix them, they will fail all in good time, You get your chance to spend some money on them. Always good to change all your fluids when you aquire a truck so that you know that everything is in order. Good luck

Yep your on the right path but watchout for yer first "limp". Do your tranny cuz you wont come home happy from the dragstrip if you dont.

Well, as far as power goes Im looking and hoping to be in the 850-900 ft lbs at the wheels range.

I have read that the trans will most likely be my first failure, but honestly even that doesn't seem that scary compared to what a built trans for a Subaru would cost me (been there done that). The only reason I am thinking Banks is because they seem to be the only company that offers an intercooler upgrade and the kit is al designed to work with it. I cant see raising my power level this much without an IC upgrade.

Also, I dont want to deal with tuning. I just want to plug it in and drive. The Banks kit is costing me under 3g's. I dont see the savings being all that much to piece it together and the risk of them not working as well together isn't worth it to me. Not to mention the truck is a easier resell dow the road if I have a basic Banks kit. People will know exactly what they are getting. ;)

BTW: This truck is a blast to drive without any upgrades as it is. I cant imagine what it will be like when I do a bunch of stuff to it. :)

Welcome back! Glad that you are looking into performance parts. Like the others said, look into each performance parts. Ask questions. There are many people in here that are running and have tried many different parts and can tell you what their experiences were and if they recommend it or not. This site will save you quite a bit of money of you take the time and ask. Good luck and mainly have FUN!!:D
