AND MY GOODNESS IS IT WORTH THE MONEY!! :D

Turbo spool is damn near instant, engine sound is more throaty and aggressive. Couldn't really lay into it because it's raining, but now even at 1/4 throttle the tires light up in the rain.

The little bit I did get into it, it sounded like the famous "LBZ Squeal" we all get from dropping the Cat is not there as much. It sounds like it is replaced with more a of whooshing sound (rather than a squeal) and V8 rumble.

You can also hear more turbo whistle at Idle back by the tip.

All-In-All, it's def. worth it, and I'm glad I did.

Can't say anything about EGT's yet, because of course, today HAD TO be the day my EGT Probe crapped out on my Evo. This morning at idle i was reading 1178 Degrees. When I picked my truck up at the shop before I now read 22xx at idle.

Does the down pipe reduce where the flange meets the front pipe? Just wondering cause my MBRP front pipe is smaller where it connects to the stock down pipe and might cause a restriction.

Yep.

This DownPipe will bolt to ANY Front Pipe out there. OEM or Aftermarket.

This is one of those mods where people see it and think about doing it..but they hold off for a while and then do it, see the results and say "why didn't I do this sooner". And it's a mod that you will DEF. feel & hear a difference from.

I am one of those people.

I've had the DP & EGR Plate in my garage since summer time. Got motivated and had them put in.

Guess what I said to myself on the way home from the shop? ;) :)

Mad Maxx, your sig lists two downpipes, which one are you running now? And there was a significant difference between the two aftermarket ones?

I have been thinking of doing those mods too. What was the total cost for the two?

It's so easy to do and sounds way better, it's a no brainer. I think the exhuast is easy to do on these trucks compared to my fords, you don't even have to open the hood. I had to put the stock back on for service and it honestly took 20 minutes on a hoist but even without the hoist still easy.

DownPipe Spools the Turbo Quicker, and lowers your EGT's & giver you better MPG's

EGR blocker keeps the sooty polluted air from recirculating through your Intake System and back into your motor.

There is only 1 DownPipe listed in my Sig. I have the Diamond Eye DownPipe, then a Corsa DownPipe-Back Exhaust, no Cat with Muffler.

I'll get some sound & vid clips in the next day or 2.

The sound REALLY changed alot.

the down pipe is connected by one clamp. unloosen and pull out of exhuast hanger and BAM!! its off. might have to tap it with screw driver and hammer to bust clamp loose. its prob a little rusty. just put whole system on last night took about two hours laying on my back but its worth it. might be hard to get stock front pipe off in one peice unless you lift your truck in the air with a hoist.

I think you are referring to another downpipe. The one MadMaxx is talking about is behind the engine at the output of the turbo and connects to the other downpipe where the cat would be.

Yep..the REAL DownPipe comes out of the Turbo, goes DOWN to the FrontPipe where the Cat used to be.

The pipes were given the wrong names from the get-go by the Exhaust Companies.

So you say this eliminates the dmax scream that we get on these vvt's? My scream is getting bad now that Im running larger ppe tunes with lots of boost. I am looking for a way to get rid of it or lessen it maybe...

You may find your answer here (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2137040&postcount=12)

Would there be any benefit on a 4" exhaust that is only cat back?
I realize the cat is a restriction, but I'm wondering if there is any room for more flow with it still on.

Yea, this def. changes the sound. I'm in the same boat as you, PPE on level 6, boost controller cranked, and the sound is wayyy wicked now. Loud rush instead of the squeal with a V8 roar.

I'm sure it would help at little bit, but obviously not as much as it would until you rip out that Cat.

I'm ending up doing what I didn't want to...both ends against the middle.
I did the cat back while waiting for the BD manifold and combo gauge.

Now I'm looking at my options. I've heard systems with the missing cat and don't think that will fly towing my RV. There must be a way to dump that cat and keep it quiet still.

I'm gonna make some Vids in the next few days, I'll get some in-cab, take-off, and windows down.

Go with Corsa, you won't hear it inside weather you have a cat or not.

I just installed the MBRP front pipe and connected it to my Magnaflow cat back so i am now Catless. what is this squeal you guys are referring to? I notice a sound of rushing air at the exhaust tip but not really a squeal? Does this new downpipe give even more turbo whistle? I am totally impressed so far with the MBRP front pipe.

Really get on it with your truck. Put the pedal 3/4 or to the floor, you will then hear the squeal.

Make sure your truck is up to temp. before you do it

Here's some quick Vids I got this morning.

Hope ya like 'em!! :)

Take-Off out of the Stop Sign, notice the NICE "face smacking into the steering wheel" De-Fuel on the shift:

Here's rolling into it after the turn, 1/2 throttle:

Since it was a little dryer out today since the day of the install, I was able to give it more pedal.

I do notice that it shifts ALOT better too. Doesn't "take it's sweet time" on a 1/2 or more throttle take-off. It just fires the shifts off REAL nice & firm now. Almost like I got a shift kit. And it's not the DeFuel kicking in either.

...Just thought I might add this as another added benefit from these mods. :)

Yep..the REAL DownPipe comes out of the Turbo, goes DOWN to the FrontPipe where the Cat used to be.

The pipes were given the wrong names from the get-go by the Exhaust Companies.

alright im a little confused. so when someone buys a turbo back exhaust, theyre getting a system that goes from the down pipe back but does not actually replace the downpipe?

this new downpipe gave you more whistle, power, mpg's etc?

Mad Maxx
01-14-2008, 08:24 PM
Yes, when people are buying the "said" Turbo-Back System, they are only getting from what bolts onto the downpipe back to the tailpipe. Basically the only thing the TurboBack Sytems come with that the CatBack systems don't is the Cat Delete Pipe.

Since Diamond Eye makes this DownPipe AND they make Exhausts for our trucks, their TurboBack system might acutally be from the Turbo Outlet to the tailpipe. But you would have to confirm with them of course.

This new downpipe gave me more of the v8 rumble, toned the squeal sound down to more of a whoosh or rushing sound, more whistle at idle, more whistle during cruise and off throttle. Didn't go through a full tank, I am going to have to fill up tomorrow, so after this tank I will know if I see a def. improvement in EGT. The boost rush is intense, the turbo is almost instant now and builds boost FAST.

Yes, IIRC all PPE tuners from the Standard & higher automatically take care of all the EGR codes.

I have HOT+2, and it def. takes care of the codes.

Also depending on what type of emissions your truck has, if you take out the cat, you won't throw an EGR code.
