My cousin has a 03, 4 door, Dually, manual trans 4x4 Cummins. His driveshaft and carrier bearing have been replaced twice. The carrier bearing is rumbling again. The first replacement was at 5k miles second at about 40k and now at 74k it's going bad again. He still is under an extended warranty but this is crazy! Things we've looked for are: bent or broken mounts, none; play in the driveline, not that either. How can we tell if his angles are bad? The truck is at stock ride height, and no abuse as far as loading or pin weight on the goosneck.

I would get an angle finder from HOME DEPOT or LOWES and check the angles. 2003 DODGE 4X4's had severe driveline vibration problems due to incorrect driveline geometry.

Shim your carrier bearing +1/4" to help relieve the angle.

I have owned 5 dodge diesels in total and 2 of those were the 3rd gen body style, both of these had the exact same problem. One of my friends have owned 2 3rd gens also and had the same experience. !st replacement under 10k, then we'd make it to about 50k, then 80k. Also we both replaced axle u-joints in the before 50k on all the 3rd gens we owned. Other than that though they were goo trucks they should just sell them new with extra u-joints in the glove box.
