The lettering on my 4x4 selector doesn't light up at night. The amber indicator for the mode works but I can't see anything about which mode it is after dark. I seem to think I saw the mode lettering lit up one time but now I'm skeptical.

So, is this busted on my truck or did GM decide turning on your map light was normal for switching modes at night?:confused:

My 2HI, 4HI, and 4LO buttons all light in the center of the buttons when the lights are on. My truck is a 2004....can't speak for a 2005.

Okay, thanks...back to the dealer. It's electric dash mounted mode shift.

My 03 button letters do not light, only the appropriate LED of the mode being used.

I walked out to my truck just now just for you :) .......On my '05 with the dash electronic transfer box 4X4 selector controls the lettering on the 4H 4L 2H buttons all light up when the headlights come on..

Yours should too!

I thought I read some where that the whole selector assy is one unit with non-servicable lights.

I would PM Eric or GMCSid or Max Panye and see what they say.

I just replaced two 4x4 shift switches, my 2HI 4HI 4L lights up along the LED showing which mode im in, but mines a 2001 so......dont know about the newers

How about this one, a quarter of the lights on my head unit went out for about 10 minutes during warm up and then slowly came back to life during my drive home from work.:confused: The same crap happened to my 98's stereo but at least it took 5 years for the channel select buttons to burn out, albeit two buttons at a time and two came back for a month or so before disapearing for good. It's only happened once on my 03' but I know where this road is heading.:(

Checked my '04 last night, there are lights are on all the 4x4 / 2WD switches when the headlights are on.

On my '03 the lettering on the buttons lights up as well as the amber indicator light showing my selected range. The only thing that does not light up is the 4X4 above it.

The cargo light button is lit. Checked that last night. The dimmer wheel is not. Noticed that a while back but didn't think much about it since I rarely use it and unlike the 4x4 buttons, I can find it by feel.:)
