OK... before anyone beats me over the head for not searching before asking... I've read about a thousand posts and replies regarding this topic and have not seen this subject clarified to my satisfaction. So there... :bleah:

I just bought a Cobra 29 CB on eBay and am planning to install it in the large cubby - like just about everyone else. A couple of questions:

1) Is there any issue with the radio getting too hot in this confined area? If so, how do you address this?
2) Since this radio has a speaker in the bottom (I think), is it really necessary to install an external speaker, or can you actually hear the radio sufficiently as is?
3) If I decide to mount a PA speaker out under the hood, is there a "traditional" place to do so where it would be out of the way? (OK... I haven't searched for this one, but since I'm opening a new thread, I figured what the heck...)

So what's your question?

Just so nobody thinks you're an idiot, while I was typing my thread opener, I inadvertenly pressed the "enter" button just after inserting the :bleah:, which resulted in me opening the thread without actually asking any questions. I was typing fast and furious trying to knock out the questions when you asked the obvious. I had hoped that nobody caught my goof...:duh:

Oh welll...

The radio shouldnt get that hot but if your concerned you can go to Radio Shack and get a small electronics fan and have it wired to the radio so when the radio is turned on the fan comes on. This will be an external fan that just blows air across the cb case.

If your putting the radio in the cubby section you should get an external speaker. My radio is mounted along the side of the center console of the passenger side and I still installed a speaker due to cabin noise. Mounted the speaker under the drivers seat.

As for the PA, dont know. Put the speakers under the hood near the wheel well?
