Tons of great woofers out there within all price ranges. The flip side of that is that threre is some trash out there also. If you are willing to spend the bucks the build houses are even doing limited runs of custom woofers built to your specs.

JL12W6 in my truck, Cerwin Vega Stroker 12 in the GN and Image Dynamics IDQ10 in the wifes car.

I am very impressed with the SQ on y L7s. My brother has a 12 in a ported box that sounds nasty loud, SQ sucks. His problem is compounded by the stock HU. My 2 8s getting 1000RMS in a sealed box sound pretty darn clean and loud to boot. Alot of it has to do with the deadening IMO.

JL audio is the best to me...... but we all know you have to PAY to play and you get what you pay for..

Honestly this type of thread is always about opinon and not fact, I'm not gonna start a fight or a pissing contest here but many of subs quoted in the thread if you saw their performance in relationship to other subs you would never purchase it. Granted its hard to hear "distortion" from a subwoofer due to its low freq output but if you know what to listen for you can hear the difference between a poor and a great sub quite clearly. Now this goes a step further and involves the amp you are using and its specs, one which is very important but hardly gets used, the damping factor. This is in a nut shell how much control the amp has over the driver, ie in motion starting/stopping etc. Lastly the box specs, build quaility and type of box have a huge effect on the sound and performance of a subwoofer. Things like a sealed box vs ported, port noise...etc.
I just usually find these threads to be funny as its always nice to see hard spent advertising dollars transformed into "facts" from people who buy into them. Just my .02
