My 2003 Sd 7.3 Powerstoke (110,000 Miles)has Been Hard To Start During Cold Weather 40 Degrees Ferrinheight Or Lower (yea I Live In Florida) I Have Been Using My Block Heater For 20-30 Minutes Before Start. Starting With No Promblems.runs Great ,just Hard To Start If It Is Cold And Don't Use Block Heater.
I Want To Change Glow Plugs But Should I Replace Glow Plug Wire Harness, valve Cover Gasket Harness????not To Fimliar With This Motor ,but Not Scared.
I Changed Glow Plugs In My 97 3500 Hd GMC in about 2 hours, but glow plugs were easy to get to because of large frame and 19.5'' tires, starts like a champ in cold weather.(130,000 miles)
The powerstroke looks a little more of a challenge maybe 5-8 hours ???
ANY advise or input whould be apreciated.

Its more than likely your glow plug relay( I think that is what it is called). Its like $50 and takes about 30 mins to change. That was what the problem was on a couple of people I knows powerstrokes.

I would definitely try the relay first, you can change it in about 5-10 minutes, its under the powerstroke cover on top of the engine. There are 4 posts on it.

PLANTMAN,

I want your HD. Did you do the 4WD conversion yourself or buy it that way? Nice rig.

It is real easy to change.
If I remember right you can put a test light on the outgoing side of the reley and on the neg. side of the battery and check to see if it is working. It is hard to do and see the light by yourself.

You can check the glow plugs easily also. Use an ohm meter. You want to check the resistance of the glow plug to ground. Unplug the connector at the valve cover, the 4 outside pins are for the glow plugs. They should all be close to the same resistance, if one or more is way off its bad.
