Chief Engineer

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have looked and could not find a thread so here is my question.
I am planning on buying a low mileage 2500 4x4 and was wondering if there are any years to stay away from? Also any other advice will be greatly appreciated.
I am a retired Chief Engineer of oil tankers so I am used to diesels but not small diesels.
Thanks for your help.

You'll hear alot of pros and cons on here about every year.
I can't speak for every year but I've had an 01 and 04.5 current .
I would recommended either.

Every duramax is awsome and there is not realy a BAD year but some have some minor issues. 01-03 (lb7) have injector problems but are covered up to 200,000 miles by GM. 04-05 (lly) some have # 2 and #7 injector harness break due to bad support of the harness on those injectors and some over heat. I have a lly and i have had none of these issues but i keep my eye on it just in case. 06-07 (lbz) seem to be solid engines. 07-08 (lmm) seem to be solid engines too.
My 2 cents

they are all good. you wont be unhappy with any of these. just test drive them and check them out before buying.

The LBZ is awesome. 22300 miles on my 06 and have loved every mile I have driven it. Bought it in Burleson TX and at 74 miles on the clock hooked my travel trailer to it and drove it to CA at 75 mph and never knew the trailer was back there. My daughters 06 LLY drives and feels the same except on a 6% grade with the same trailer. In stock configuration the LBZ's 50 extra horses show up with a little more pulling power on the hills. Either engine will preform like no other stock diesel pickup out there. 95% of the miles I drive in this truck are pulling my 13K toy hauler. JMHO

i prefer the LBZ. i drove the lb7 and lly's and didnt like the power. thats why i just recently got a duramax. had to wait for the LBZ's to be out for a bit.
