: What a nonsense service
DuraDen 01-03-2005, 11:45 AM My business partner and I have 2500hds. Just got the bill for his 15k mile service.
Here is a list of the services they performed. They charged $149.15!
Change engine oil & filter
Lube chasis
Check & adjust tire pressures
Inspect cooling system, belts & hoses
Rotate & balance
check fluid levels
Replace air filter
Clean air filter housing
Perform sound system service (my personal favorite)
Inspect brake pad/Shoe for wear
No way they balanced the tires, and I wonder what they did to check the sound system, listen to it? Bottom line is except for changing the oil, tire rotation, and air filter change the rest is nonsense and done at any Jiffy Lube as part of the basic oil change service.
Just thought I'd share my latest outrage.
briano 01-03-2005, 01:11 PM wow.. I need to change professions!
that is crazy in my opinion~
another reason I do all my maintenance personally.
biggar 01-03-2005, 01:15 PM Is it time to change the air filter at 15K?

jmg343 01-03-2005, 01:29 PM it is absurd. I made the mistake of going in for the saem service but i did it at 5,000 miles. I wanted the stealer to do the first set of changes, dont know why. Ill tell you this much, I aint never going to the stealer again, unless its to burn the joint down. Theres almost nothing they do there that I cant do myself. I might swear a little more, it may take me a little longer, but Ill get it done and know its done right. Keep this in mind too. At the stealer, look at the oil they're using. There are far better oils to run through your truck for far better prices than the stealer is charging for the oil they use. Also, did they do your fuel filter? If/When they do, watch the ****head pour your fuel from the filter he takes off (old fuel) into the new filter. Thats a no no.
Everyone stand up. F the dealers, bring me your trucks Ill do the service for you, teach you how to do it, and then you can do it yourself. We can swear and throw tools together, and then we can even have a beer, or six.
Max Payne 01-03-2005, 01:42 PM Yeah, F the dealers! Oh, wait, I just F-ed myself:D
I see they didn't change the air in the tires or charge you for new plugs and wires!
Duramaxdave 01-03-2005, 04:10 PM There's good dealers and bad dealers ( or should I say service managers and mechanics ) The chevy dealer I use has a good service manager lets me bring the oils i want for the oil changes ( delvac ), never charges for state inspections, 8 bucks to mount and balance a tire, ( We buy the tires from the tire rack). by the way nothing wrong with doing your own service either, if there's time to do it. Try to find a better dealer. Good luck

2004.5Duramax 01-03-2005, 04:19 PM I hear amsoil has a very good turn around in the diesel engine, and your right a nice k & n stage two does a llot better than the stock replacement, for about the same price after time. Oh, and don't forget to grease the leaf spring pads on the 2500hd, and up it helps the ride stifness.

As for greasing your leaf spring pads, I think you better ask MaxPayne or DmaxalliTech or GMCSID if this is a good idea....
DmaxDave..you lucky SOB...are you dating the service guy's daughter or sumtin? :ro)

Thinking about it for a while. I really don't see what you have to be upset about. It seems to me that $150 is a fair price for the work done at the dealer. Not sure what sound system service is, perhaps clean the lens on the CR player? chean the heads on the cassette player? You say no way they balanced the tires. How do you know for a fact? did you watch them? If the truck came back washed then any tell tale dirt spots on the rims would be gone.
You got two filters, 10 quarts of oil, wheels rotated and balanced plus a bunch of PMI. I don't see a problem with the price. Yes, If you go down to wally world you can get some oil and a couple frams for $40 or so, but did you really think the dealer was going to have the techs work for free and not get any overhead?
I've had plenty of service done by the dealers. I never felt I was being totally ripped off. I asked for a service, I was given a quote and at that point I had a choice, let them do the work or leave.
One man's opinion.
