I am looking at buying a used 2001 Chevrolet 2500HD 4X4 Crew Cab Short Bed and I was wondering if there was anything that I should look at closely or ask the seller. He is asking $23,450 for an LS, with 51000K. This is the first truck I will ever own, wondering if diesel is the way to go since the current price of diesel vs. gas. One of the best things you can do is post the serial # here and someone will respond with all of the warranty history.

Is the truck in good shape, if it is, thats one good price, you cant go wrong! Get a service history like max said, and check and see if the injectors have been replaced yet, if so, less hassle for you. Also, look under neath the truck real well, check the 4x4, make sure it locks in well......

Do you think this is a good deal on that year of truck or should I try and get the truck at a lower price? What else should I ask the owner about? I haven't seen the truck yet am going to look at it tomorrow but the pictures of it are clean from talking with the owner it was mostly highway miles.

Well more than likely he has been on this site or is still on this site. So by telling you to never give what they are asking, would almost be a dead give away.
Hopefully from the looks of the report he does all of his own maintanance on it. With approx 51,000 miles and a list of items that I am assuming go with it, I would say it sounds like a fair price. But I never give what they offer.
There are issues with the 2001 models that and you can get some info on this site about it.

I am a bit biased here, but buying a used 01 is better in my opinion. No controversy on injectors about replacement. Truck has simple exhaust system, no Smog to speak of. All the transmission reflashes have been tested. Most of the aftermarket stuff now has been revised and proven on the 01's. If the truck is in the condition you expect and you like it, then I say buy it and have fun. Some may argue that the '02s and up started coming with more bells and whistles, creature comfort items and so on but I am not sure if that is a good thing. To much stuff to go wrong at some point. I ordered a LS truck specifically to stay away from all those heated seats, steering control features, heated outside mirrors, OnStar and so on. Now I do not live in an area where I would benefit from the options I stated above. Owners back east may need these items so some geographic concerns might play a role in what you want or need.

I bought an '01 Duramax as my first diesel. It was an LT CC/LB with a 6in Lift. I gave $23000 for it with 95k miles and in good condition. I had the injectors and a water pump replaced under warranty the first month that I had it. 6 months and 25k miles later, it is running great. I love the truck and do not regret my purchase for a minute.

Used '01 Duramax is my first diesel. Had warranty to 100,000. Replacing injectors seem to be a must. See if there's been a recent trans service. I gave $28500 w/70k. Had some after market: rhino, head-ache, tool box, chrome grill guard.
