I was just wandering if any one ever tryed to make there own tie rod sleeves i work at a machine shop and they dont look the complex. We have steel laying around.

i saw a pic of one yesterday. it was in someones garage on here but i forgot who it was.

I made mine at work with nothing more than a drill press and some 1/4" wall dom steel tubing, but it was a pain in the ass. The inside diameter has to be stepped in order to fit over the tie rod, yet still have enough material to thread. For the amount of effort it took, I'd just buy a set if I had it to do over again. It took me about 2 hours to make and install them. I should have been doing work instead. lol

lol so you got paid to make them and saved the money of buying them...seems well worth it to me.:D

i've thought about it before to, but i thing i'm gonna try to just make a whole new tie rod assembly w/ uniballs on em for more articulation. what cha think.

Haha. Kinda sorta. I am mechanic, so I work on comission. I got my minimal hourly wage while I was trying to be Mr. Fabricator, but If I had actually worked on some motorcycles, I would have made enough money to buy a set in less time. lol

If you come up with some tire rods like you are thinking of, I'd like to see them. Sounds like a cool idea. I don't have any machining experience or skills, so I always like to see cool custom parts. :cool:

i forgot the member that did it though he had writen up directions on how to do it but i forget the members name.
