Changing the oil this afternoon and the little piece at the end of the dipstick falls off. Has anyone had this happen. I'm just glad it didn't end up inside the motor.

I had that happen a NEW truck 2 weeks ago.

brand new LLY CC short bed, man just took possesion was at home and checking all the fluids. brought it back the next morning and asked if the stick was supposed to be frayed like that

He was very adamant about seeing the piece of the stick before he picked it up again. so I pulled the lower pan and retrived to part.

No way for it to really hurt anything, is to heavy to move anywhere, and the screen on the oil pickup in WAY smaller than that.

Then to make things even better, his tag was transfered from old truck to new truck, it had been stolen screws and all by the time he picked the truck up.

If this a sign of things to come for this truck, I'm gonna quit now !!! LOL

Glad you removed the junk for him. I remember years ago when the nylon timing gear would self destruct. Some would tell you not to worry, the parts in the pan won't hurt anything. Guess what? Right! They ended up all through the engine. Later! Frank

My dipstick end came off at last change. It is still laying in the pan. The dealership just put in a new dipstick and called it good.

FrankGood old Oldmobile...at 100,000 mile checkup, make sure to replace timing chain and gears. http://dieselplace.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=949

Ya know, if you think of all the crap that could/would go wrong on older cars, we REALLY don't have it all that bad with these DMax's......I guess we just have to add the dipstick handle to the list of things to keep up on.

Right on Tom. I have been around awhile. I remember the good old days very well. What I remember best was some of the hot rod cars and trucks I had. Another thing I remember well was the amount of upkeep and repairs they needed. The good old days are here now. Later! Frank
