Where are you guys installing your air compressors? I just got my 450 and it's too big to put in the engine bay, but needs to be kept dry and cool. Inside the cab isnt' really an option and under the truck will expose it to the elements.

I have a toolbox in the back that I was going to install it in which would be perfect except for the cooling - there's no air intake or exhaust on a toolbox. I was thinking about installing an intake/exhaust filter in a hole on the side of the toolbox but wanted to poll you guys before I started cutting into it. I was thinking some little 12v case fan from a computer might do the trick and it could be activated by the 12v power to the air compressor so it'd only come on when the A/C came on.

But I'm curious to hear from anyone who's just thrown a 450 under their truck and went for it. How's it holding up?

One guy used a plastic battery case and mounted the whole deal on the frame.

I made a stainless mount for mine that I mounted inside the frame rail behind the transfer case on the driver side along with my tank. No problems what so ever.

I mounted mine under the passenger rear door outside the frame. The stainless mount I have does a pretty good job of protecting it from the elements. I don't go wading in water, but if I decided to, I could pretty easily take it off if I needed to. It has rained pretty hard a few times (with standing water on the road I went flying through in a couple places) and I haven't had any problems with it. If you need pictures let me know.

There is a pretty large empty space under the air filter. I have mounted the little Firestone compressors there for people.

I used a trailer battery box around mine. Mounted on the passenger side under the cab on the outside of the frame. Here is the link to the thread. http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13751

Yeah Dennis, if you wouldn't mind posting them, that'd be great.

Thank you all for the input so far - I'll try to post pictures once I get mine installed. I found a spot inside the frame rails, at the front of the bed where I was going to mount my tank. Would hide/protect it, and mount it at an angle that would allow any accumulated water in the tank to drain right into the relief valve hole.

I mounted mine on the rear cross member above and behind the spare tire. Nice and dry and i can barely hear it.
