After being in the shop for five weeks today I finally got my truck back. But now when I give it throttle I hear this knocking noise that I have never heard before and it seems to be sluggish. They replace Injector pump twice, the gear on the injector pump, six injectors, and part of the wiring harness not for sure what part yet but it was someting to do with fuel. Any ideas what may be causing this knocking? Any one know of a dealer or mechanic that i can take it to in the Louisville, Ky area to have it checked out because Bob Hook has done nothing but make my problems worse. Thanks.

It sounds like could be a lack of valve clearance with the piston....maybe. At TDC the valve isn't recessed enough and it's hitting the piston. Either the valve cover needs to be removed or on some engines the head needs to be removed. I don't know how the D-max is configured.

I cant imagine why. Doesnt seem to me that they would have to remove any of that to do a injector pump, injector, or wiring harness?

highly doubt it is a valve problem. never heard anything of the such on a dmax. can you post the vin so we can check on what they might have done to it? the last eight if you don't mind.

Did they replace the FICM? If so, all the updates need to be done (re-flashes). Mine did that and was noisy after a dealer visit. Sounded like valve rattle thru the rpm range. Got all the updates and runs great. One quick way to check is to see if you have the fuel filter life check on the DIC. Not fool proof but a good place to start.

Sounds like your dealer is challenged. There is no way that all that stuff went wrong all at once. Look for a new dealer.

Just my $.02

What will the vin let you see. Is there a site that will let you look at what repairs were done.
I'm in the process of looking for a new dealer to take it to.

They wanted to look at it again but I would not let them touch it.

Yes now I have the fuel filter life on the DIC.

They also replaced my cluster but the new one has the wrong mileage on it. They wanted to keep the truck until they got a new one in but I wasn't about to let that happen.

stacks is a gm tech and the vin will let him know what has been done so far. It will be the cheapest best advice you will get.

Nothing has been entered into the system yet, May take a couple days for them to process the claim.

thanks cobra.:) yeah some dealers just have no incentive to get the guys trained and then not enough diesel volume to refine those skills. but the kicker is they don't have the gaul to send them to a good diesel dealer. it just sucks because what they f up cost gm money and then we(high volume dealers) get anal reamed during audits because of there money loss:mad:. it is not fun doing brakes on anything here anymore.

Stacks that's awesome you can look that up. I don't trust anything they did it would be really nice to have someone be able to read the details and tell me in laymans terms what was actually done. I have a copy of the paper work and understand some of it but not all. And of course the manager was too busy to sit down and tell me what it all meant. This has been a five week mess that's not over yet.
The funny thing was the only reason I took the truck in was because the speedometer kept sticking. Of course they couldn't even do something as simple as replacing the cluster correctly.

Is the instructions on how to check the fuel filter life (if applicable) on the DIC?

Can you get a new truck using the 'lemmon law'?

No the lemon law does not apply since the truck hasn't had problems from the start. GM also said that they reviewed my file and complaints and there is nothing they will do for me.

Damn, I figured if it's under warrenty still and goes back for the same problem 3 times or they have it for 4 weeks it would apply. The laws are different in every state though. Good luck, better you than me.

I googled some lemon law stuff for Kentucky...that is where you're at right? Anyways, you should be able to use the lemon to your advantage. The dealer is screwing you over. And Chevrolet has an obligation to provide you with a working truck. From what I gathered the manufacturer has to take responsibility...they can't sell out a frachise dealer, even if they are crappy. I would look into getting a lawyer. I'm still assuming you bought this truck brand new and it's under warrenty still. Even if it's not, you still got rights.

Believe it...I am on my third dealer, and all have been clueless...

I can believe it, but that it goes on just baffles me.

Of course on the other hand, I am pretty much the only Diesel guy at my dealer. So if I left, that place would be pretty bad off.
