: Problem: High Idle the manual way ??

I use my foot for high idle since the Southern California temps don't reach the needed temps for the high idle feature to activate itself on the truck. I start it up and wait for 1 minute and then use my foot to kick up the idle to 1700rpm. The other morning (about 50 degrees) I did this procedure and the warning chime came from the dash. I looked at my instrument panel and saw the speedometer trying to go 5+mph. When I dropped the idle down to 1500rpm the speeometer dropped to zero and the warning chime stopped. Any idea on what this is and if I am hurting anything? Could this be an edge problem? I run it on level 1 most of the time and it was on level one when I had this problem.

Thanks!

Nope, not an edge problem. Mine does the same thing, but if you notice the chime doesn't hit until the engine is around 2 grand. Must just be a rev warning.

I've reved it up to 2K before with no chime. When the problem existed the chime didn't happen until the speedo started to move (about 1700 rpm). The truck didn't feel like it was trying to go anywhere. I'm thinking that what ever controls the speedo may have had a glitch and thought the truck was moving. When the speedo started to move and the e-brake being set the computer may have thought I was moving down the street with the e-brake on and set off the chime. I just want to know why the truck thought it was moving while sitting in Park in my driveway.

I've had several cars/trucks with the electronic speedos that will vibe up off of 0 mph during hard revs. My cruiser will hit 25 mph while at a dead stop around 4500 rpms. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/hihi.gif I don't know why they do that.

But the chime in the truck won't do it every time. It seems to only be during cold start-up, followed by high revs. I think it's a cold engine warning. Maybe one of the techs could weigh in on that for sure.

My speedo didn't vibe. It ran up and down like it was actually going 5 or so mph. It stayed constant with my foot. Anyway I orderd some high idle pins so I at least won't have to use my foot.
