Problem with turn signals on my truck.... When I want to turn left and switch the turn signal on all works but when I turn the switch to the right my left and right side of the track blink looks the same as haveing 4ways signal on....could be a bad relay or cracked wire? ....it only happens with it feels like... I though the relay is frosted since we have -15c to -27c for past week but parked in heated garage and did not help... any ideas...thanks

Trailer Harness or 5th wheel harness...........two wires that are corroded or touching some how..........
Happened to me on my 1997 GMC..........it drove me nuts..........when the weather got damp the left signal would cause the parking lights and dash lights to blink with the signal.
I checked everything, bulbs, relays , fuses, etc..........I finally fixed the problem, frustrating as it was.
Good Luck.

where do you find the harness is it at the hitch plug?

The 5th wheel or camper harness is just forward of the gas tank between the cab and bed, taped up.........that is only if you have that option.
The trailer plug is mounted to the hitch if you have the factory tow package.
It could also be the turn signal switch in the colunm as well........maybe Max Power of one of the tech's has seen this happen before......
Any Aftermarket stuff, remote starter, etc.......

I've never run across it. It is definately interesting because if it was a short it would do it no matter which turn signal was on. This makes me think it could be the turn signal switch itself. I'll look at some wiring diagrams and see if anything else makes sense.

I have command start and running it in stock mode, command start been there since day one and nothing has been done to the truck for quite few months
and thanks for looking in to it...i will have a look at the harness and see if I can see any corrosion.... but if there are any other suggestions....the truck does not have any warranty left...

One thing you can do to eliminate the possibility of the trailer connector is pull the left and right fuses for the trailer supply. You should be able to find which fuses they are from your owner manual. They are 10 amp fuses and they are under the hood. If it still does it, it is most likely the turn signal flasher/module that is the culprit.

The turn signal flasher/module is easy to change. Do you know anyone with an 03 or newer chevy that you could swap with for a couple days?

nope...but I will see what I can do....so I guess the flasher module is located behing the fuse pannel in the cab....thanks

This thread brought back some memories. Loaned our VW Rabbit to the daughter while she was in college. Her then boyfriend (thankfully didn't become our soninlaw) decides to impress her by detailing it. He pulled all the lamp bulbs out and put them back in again. I didn't find this out until the car was returned and oncoming traffic would stare at us. One day (many months/year later) it came to my attn that the front turn signal lights would illuminate when brakes were applied. After chasing wires, found that some of the dual element bulbs were placed in the wrong sockets providing an alternate path/loop for squirrely things to happen. The best revenge was not to have him in the family ~

I had the same problem. took it to the dealer and they changed out the directional control module and it fixed the problem.
