Just got a recall in the mail today. Says "We have learned that your GMC sierra may have been built with a kinked front axle vent tube. Prior to assembly, the tube is kinked and secured with tape toprevent axle fluid leakage. On your vehicle the tape may have not been removed upon completion of vehicle assembly."
Options: A. You can go to the dealer and have them fix it or B. you can do what I did and check for yourself.
1. Open hood.
2. Front differential vent tube is located on the drivers, under the engine wire harness(to the right of alternator right in front of brake fluid reservoir)
3. Locate vent tube. It is located between battery tray and the underhood electrical center.
4.Inspect vent tube and if it was like mine and the tube is not kinked or folded over and taped then no further action is required. If it is kinked or folded over and taped, remove the tape and straighten the tube!
5. Recall says not to drive in 4wd untill you have made this inspection.
My guess is that if you drive in 4wd with the vent blocked, the pressures created by the case will blow oil past the seals and you will have a leaky front diff.
