Just got a recall in the mail today. Says "We have learned that your GMC sierra may have been built with a kinked front axle vent tube. Prior to assembly, the tube is kinked and secured with tape toprevent axle fluid leakage. On your vehicle the tape may have not been removed upon completion of vehicle assembly."

Options: A. You can go to the dealer and have them fix it or B. you can do what I did and check for yourself.

1. Open hood.
2. Front differential vent tube is located on the drivers, under the engine wire harness(to the right of alternator right in front of brake fluid reservoir)
3. Locate vent tube. It is located between battery tray and the underhood electrical center.
4.Inspect vent tube and if it was like mine and the tube is not kinked or folded over and taped then no further action is required. If it is kinked or folded over and taped, remove the tape and straighten the tube!
5. Recall says not to drive in 4wd untill you have made this inspection.

My guess is that if you drive in 4wd with the vent blocked, the pressures created by the case will blow oil past the seals and you will have a leaky front diff.

Me too, but I wanted to make sure a lot of people see this, specifically those using 4wd for long periods.

I was just about to post about this same thing. I received mine in the mail as well. I guess I am an idiot and can't see this on my truck. I looked but can't see any tubes kinked like the picture. The picture is pretty bad on the paperwork I received. I do not use 4wd so I guess I am ok, lol.

Start at the differential and work your way up in reverse.

Just recieved mine from GM. My truck was built in April 07. I have not had time to check for the bent hose yet.

finally found that &^%$ vent tube! Pics on that notice were horrible, easiest thing to do is look for something with white tape attached right at the bottom of the power center...it looks like an electrical wire bundle because it has the wire loom plastic covering over most of it...

I just looked at mine it has some tape on it but not kinked, looks like it may have been taped and then poped off? I drive in 4wd all the time for extremely long periods, i guess its fine for now.

real tough to find look under the wiring harness for the hose with a black vent cap then follow it to the white tape
