: Having some fun this weekend installing springs & shocks
I got around to installing my Kore leveling setup yesterday. The springs made a huge difference in ride quality and how it takes bumps on the fly. I highly recommend getting these springs. They are a must have.
The Revtek spacers as you can see were breaking studs. They did send me a new kit but I chose to go with the Kore setup. Top notch stuff and super engineered.
Out with the old...

Using taller custom engineered springs allows more travel and a smoother ride. Here is the new spring next to the stock coil.

Quick 01-02-2005, 12:01 AM Hoot, great post and pictures as usual. Looks like a nice kit for the Dodge boys.
As you can see i love working on trucks. Maybe that's why I got a Dodge? Figured I say it before somebody else did.
This way I get a taste of what it takes to make a Dodge respectable.
Burner 01-02-2005, 02:29 AM What do these springs do? Looks like pulling a heavy load would make it walk even more with the front higher than stock?
..... whatever it does, it really looks good. And, as usual, the pictures look good. However, that truck is wayyyyyyyyy too clean. LOL

It's clean cause I keep it that way. Only got 16,000 on it.
The springs level the front and are designed for offroad racing. They provide much improved suspension travel and handling especially at speed over bumps. So far they are the best money I have spent on this truck.
Kent Kroeker came in third place last month in the Baja 1000

This Dmax came in a bit later...... is that MAC at the wheel? ):h

Burner 01-02-2005, 12:37 PM I wonder how they affect the pulling? Would they work on a Dooley?

For those questions I would contact Kent. He knows what his system is designed to do. He said it will improve my plow handling but it's pretty good as it is.
Burner 01-02-2005, 12:47 PM That Ram looks odd in the air. It's almost like seeing a bulldog jump.....it can be done but it's just not expected. :D Solid axel jumps in the 1,000 are a rare sight to me.
.......... will your truck do that now? ):h
dieselman 01-02-2005, 12:48 PM Hey Hoot,
Do you have a before and after pic from the side? Also, total cost of kit? Any pieces for the rear or just front only? Thanks, and always, great job.
Burner,
I think a GM truck would look odder... especially after it came back down.
BTW that Dodge IS a diesel.
That's exactly my point. Dodge builds a pretty tough solid axle truck. Kent said all he does is enhance it with springs and shocks and you have a winner. Remember Kore makes about four levels costing from $400 up to $3500 but you get the same springs in all the kits. The higher cost kits come with rear sping packs and the top of the line kit also comes with Fox remote res shox.
Pics coming on the finished product. Not really any different looking than with the spacers before but the difference is in the way the truck handles now.
What I installed was just under $600 shipped.
Springs
Bump stops
Four Bilstein 5100's
Cummins600 01-02-2005, 03:02 PM Hoot, really glad you posted pics of this one. That looks a hundred times better than that spacer. I think I will be getting in contact with KORE for the leveling springs and shocks. Chrome mixed with all that black looks pretty sharp!! I saw you replaced the bump stops, but what about your steering stabilizer??
It really is sharp looking but you know after time unless you really keep your suspension parts clean, it will pretty much just blend in. The shocks are nicely finished. Maybe the zinc will retain it's sheen. Who knows. Spacers..... Poor mans lift they call them. I didn't see a reason right now to do the steering stabilizer. So far things are nice and tight. I've been keeping my sealed ball joints greased with a hypodermic grease nozzle. Hopefully I won't have to worry about them in the near future. Some people have had premature ball joint failure on stock trucks.
Patriot_RAM 01-06-2005, 04:56 PM Hoot,
Is the lift pretty comparable to the 2" leveling kit you had before? Also -- what were the part numbers you ordered? Their site is confusing!
Patriot_RAM 01-06-2005, 04:56 PM And HOW do you keep the bottom of you truck so clean?
And HOW do you keep the bottom of you truck so clean?
Pressure wash once in a while... not excessively but to knock off the loose dirt.
The 5100 shocks feel real good too.
Some people were complaining about creaking and knocking sounds with the spacer lifts. I was getting them too with the Revtek kit. All gone now. Love this suspension.
The Kore site is a little tricky. Kent said he's working on it. He is great at customer service/questions.
Basically there are four kits with the cheapest being the leveling kit.
All of the kits for the diesel use the same springs. As you go up in price he adds even better shocks, rear leaf packs and so on. Prices have gone up some. I got the Leveling kit and added the rear shocks for another $150. Paid $600 shipped.
Don't go by my pricing below... It's the way I interpreted it. Could be mistaken.
Lift is in the 2-3" range on average for all kits. These are not billed as "Lift Kits". They are performance suspension systems.
Leveling
Springs, two bumpstops and two front 5100 shocks
About $500
Pace
Springs, two bump stops, four 5100 Bilsteins, rear leaf packs
About $1000
Chase
Same as Pace but 7100 Series Bilstein remote-reservoir race shocks with the custom billet shock towers. Shocks have spherical bearing mounts.
About $2500
Race
Ultimate...
Same as above but with 2.5” Fox specially-designed remote-reservoir race shocks valved for Dodge trucks. Shocks have spherical bearing mounts.
About $3500 (The shocks alone are $500 each)

Patriot_RAM 01-07-2005, 09:38 AM Cool, thanks for the info. I was thinking about a 5" front lift, 2"-3" rear, but I don't see any kits anywhere that I would trust to last as long as the Cummins without regular replacement of various parts. I might go this way instead.
DGFoster 01-07-2005, 04:22 PM Looks good Hoot.
Micheal Tomac 01-08-2005, 04:58 PM ready to hit the baja 1000 next year hoot???
ready to hit the baja 1000 next year hoot???
You and MAC tag teamin? ):h
It makes a big difference in everyday driving. Before the new springs, the milk would bounce off the seat when I went over the speedbumps at the market.
Micheal Tomac 01-08-2005, 06:28 PM so the suspension upgrades were to take the edge off the speedbumps at the supermaket?
so the suspension upgrades were to take the edge off the speedbumps at the supermaket?
yea
Patriot_RAM 01-08-2005, 08:53 PM I need that for the parking lot at work... :D
Again.. as I drive my truck now with the new springs and shocks I have to say.... Do this mod.... it is worth much more than the cost. My truck feels awesome running down the road... no more wincing when you see a big bump coming.
Patriot_RAM 01-14-2005, 10:32 AM I want to do this mod.... But I also want a small lift. grr, I can't decide what to do. I wish they made lifts also.

It is a small lift in itself.
Patriot_RAM 01-14-2005, 05:27 PM Cool, are you going to buy me one now? :D My wife about killed me after the Road Armor order....
Cool, are you going to buy me one now? :D My wife about killed me after the Road Armor order....
We must be married to the same woman :o
Patriot_RAM 01-15-2005, 12:12 AM Maybe so... I'll be worried if you have to bribe her with new carpet before she lets you get a dual disc clutch. :)
so the suspension upgrades were to take the edge off the speedbumps at the supermaket?
She does work a little once in a while...
Patriot_RAM 01-16-2005, 01:18 AM Wow, impressive. :)
Burner 01-17-2005, 11:04 PM What's that thing under the wood?
What's that thing under the wood?
Tarp and a bedliner. Tarp just makes it easy to collect and dump the dirt and bark.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
On edit..... dam yu ):h
Patriot_RAM 03-12-2005, 04:28 PM Hoot --
I've decided that I'm going with Kore. If you were going to do it again, would you do the same thing, or would you go with the Pace/Chase? I'm betting we have similar situations -- I drive the Interstate 35-40 miles / day, town roads quite a bit. I have extra weight on the front -- about 275# over stock which is likely about like your plow.
Anyhow, now that you've had it in for a few weeks, let me know what you would do different if anything. I'm not sure what the advantage of their leaf packs are either. I may have to ask them.
