: Installed 5inch Summit...very happy
Ltrain 01-01-2005, 06:47 PM After 1 week of driving with this system, i have removed it and will be sending it back to summitracing.com The truck sounded excellent at first then became very loud and just unpleasant to deal with driving. for those looking into exhaust be very aware the system is extremely loud. The noise is unbearable if you plan on towing with your truck.
Thanks
-Ltrain
For under $400 you cannot beat this exhaust. The install was very easy and all slipped together nicely. Truck idles like stock and smooth cruising. Sounds awesome when punched over 2500RPM. I would recomend this to anyone trying to decide what exhaust, and the 5inch looks awesome.
Lennart 01-02-2005, 04:13 AM I was trying to find it at summitracing.com....what is the part number for that exhaust? What material? aluminized?
jmg343 01-02-2005, 04:19 AM do you have a cat or muffler? how soon after the 4" elbow does your system go into the 5 in?
Road Boss 01-02-2005, 03:30 PM Pictures!
duramax hd 01-02-2005, 07:13 PM yeah, any pictures?
Max Payne 01-02-2005, 08:02 PM I am glad you like it, I agree, best $375 I ever spent.
JJs DuMax 01-07-2005, 09:46 PM Looking on Summitracing.com website is it the Summit Aluminized Diesel Exhaust Systems?
Specs: <TABLE class=appinfo cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>Intermediate Pipe Diameter (in) 5</TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>Tail Pipe Diameter (in) 5</TD><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD>Tip Diameter (in) 5</TD><TD></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Does it start out as 4" then flare to 5"? JJ :)

killerbee 01-09-2005, 04:02 PM Can one of you snap a pic with the spare in place? Many of us would like to see the clearance
Duratys 01-09-2005, 04:42 PM If Your Haulin A 285 Spare Under There Its Sure Going To Be Tight
Max Payne 01-09-2005, 05:57 PM I don't think a Geo Metro spare would fit with this hog):h
killerbee 01-09-2005, 06:14 PM I dont get it! There is a freakin TON of room down there. What is the obstacle to having an exhaust AND a spare???????
who66 01-09-2005, 06:18 PM Does The Summit Kit Come With A Muffler Delete Pipe?
Duratys 01-09-2005, 07:00 PM I dont get it! There is a freakin TON of room down there. What is the obstacle to having an exhaust AND a spare???????
IVE GOT THE BANKS 4" ON MINE AND A 285 UNDER THERE AND THERE ISNT A TON OF ROOM. KIT WENT IN FINE AND LOOKS GOOD, SO I DONT THINK ITS IN WRONG. IKNOW THERES NO WAY IN HELL I COULD GET A 305/75/17 OR SAME SIZE TIRE DIAM IN 16" TO FIT FACTORY RIM UNDER THERE WITH THIS EXHAUST SYSTEM AND THAT ONE IS 5" THE 305'S ARE WHAT THE TRUCK ROLLS ON NOW. IVE JUST LEFT THE 285 UNDER THERE CAUSE IM TOO LAZY TO TAKE IT DOWN,NOW THAT ITS USELES TO ME. DO I HAVE A WONKY EXHAUST KIT, OR AM I MISSIN SOMETHING HERE:o
killerbee 01-09-2005, 07:15 PM Thanks for the response. I just looked around under there, I want a dual 4" that will clear a 34.5" spare and I see lots of room to do that, even using the existing hangar location. Now THAT would be a an aftermarket accomplishment, unless there is a pipe out there that will work now.
Duratys 01-09-2005, 07:18 PM I Dont Understand Why I Have So Little Room? What Exhaust Do You Have At This Point Masterp2?
killerbee 01-09-2005, 07:26 PM I have the stock exhaust. A lot of aftermarkets use the same hangar, but put the pipe on the spare side of the hangar post. Kills me.
Duratys 01-09-2005, 08:01 PM Pipe On The Spare Side Of Hangar Post? Not Sure What Your Getting At.
With Stock Exhaust Of Cource You Will Have Tons Of Room, The Mandrell Bends In The Aftermarket Kits Must Not Be Even Close To Factory, because Space Is Now Limited
i run a H2 spare with my banks exhaust, no biggy
jmg343 01-09-2005, 10:04 PM i had to cut my pipe and weld it back together at a different angle in order to clear the spare without touching it. i have a 285 under the truck and even after the cut and weld there is still only 1/2 in of clearance MAX
killerbee 01-10-2005, 08:50 AM In this pic, you can see that the pipe is to the left of the hangar. Not sure why the exhaust can't be made to hang on the right of the hangar, like stock, there is a lot of room. Mandrel bending takes longer sweeps, but still...
ski good feedback on the banks, first I have heard a large spare going in an aftermarket. I assume you mean a 315?
Max Payne 01-10-2005, 10:41 AM Keep in mind, the exhaust could be made to fit many ways... I put it together where "I" wanted it and welded all the seams and made my own 1/2 inch hangers, welded also. There is ALOT of wiggle room with these systems...
Max Payne 01-10-2005, 10:43 AM I also do not have a spare... I am used to changing tires while on a rack in a heated shop with a 1/2 inch impact... No way I am changing a tire on the side of the road, in the cold, on my knees with a little jack and lugwrench, I'd rather walk):h
killerbee 01-10-2005, 10:56 AM Is custom fabrication of a SS exhaust done? I would do a 5 into dual 4", that would allow a 315 spare. Just me.
Duratys 01-10-2005, 11:00 AM Masterp2...now Im Pickin Up What Your Layin Down.....pic Is Worth A Thousand Words.
Max Payne...yea No Kidddin That Little Jack Scares Me..
Max Payne 01-10-2005, 11:03 AM Never mind that... Wooo Woooo! http://www.stylinconcepts.com/images/UploadedImages/GeneratedImages/1427-0-1.jpg
[ski good feedback on the banks, first I have heard a large spare going in an aftermarket. I assume you mean a 315?[/QUOTE]yes, 315/70R17. not a lot of room left but it works. if I can remember which thread, I posted a pic of this......
killerbee 01-10-2005, 06:30 PM Thanks, and happy birthday!
thanks Michael
by the way, here is a quick pic of the spare by the exhaust pipe, a little to the side so it appears closer than it is (little over 1/2 inch)
ignore the surfce rust on the pipe !!!

killerbee 01-11-2005, 08:45 AM Very good. I guess a dual and spare cannot be done, the driver shock is in the way.
